Great day to ride. Not too many walkers. Made up a plan on the way there. Decided to do the Figure 8 as a warm up to Goat Hill on the first lap. Didn't have any problem getting the 19t around the Figure 8. Goat Hill is doable but I think its more efficient to walk up to the first left switch back as I come to a stand still going around it. The second lap included Carpet Trail. I didn't have any trouble on this one either but the climb after the hard left switch back I would have to walk after few laps. The third lap included Toilet Bowl. There are a couple of tricky spots on this one that would probably stop me if I was tired enough but it's pretty fast otherwise. I was able to increase my average on it. In all it was a good ride. I was surprised at the average after the first lap. I didn't think I could do that on Figure 8 and Goat Hill. The second lap started really bad. I got behind two people who had probably never ridden a bike on these trails or any trail for that matter. I was walking my bike at times but waited patiently until they let me by. I had given up on the average but kept the pressure on just to see how it would go. I knew the last lap might be faster since Toilet Bowl didn't have any big climbs so I really dug in on this one and it payed off with a finishing average of 11.2. It dropped a little on the way to the parking lot. I was surprised how good I felt. This was a huge boost of confidence leading up to the six hour race. I know I couldn't keep this up for six hours but doing it for two is a good strength builder and with some pacing I think I can finish OK. I did notice my left knee complaining a little on the second lap. I'll keep an eye on it. The average above is calculated. I left the timer going and didn't realize it until I was on the way home.
