Notes
So, bottom line I think the heat and he humidity got me today. Body temp just seemed to jump around the 10k mark and I struggled.
Prep for race was good and I think I started in the right place. Running VERY comfortably the first two miles, chatting a bit and holding myself back. At mile 3, it was time to get on pace. To this point, John Vandanacker had been kind of sitting on me, so I decided to make a strong move to try to shake him -- TOO STRONG!!! The plan was to settle back in the next mile or even give a little back. Unfortunately, I was never able to settle back in. Then, when John came by me around mile 4ish, I think I just fell apart a little bit. I kept trying to maintain contact with him, but I was just losing space gradually. He had me by 11ish seconds by 6.9 and that was the closest I got to him the rest of the way. I tried, but that was it. So, just kept trying to race anyone around me. I think I did a decent job of that, but am a bit disappointed that I left some time out on the course.
Not a terrible effort, but I really think I should have been under 1:18 -- even with the heat. :(
