Notes

Cloudy and light snow, with a light wind out of the south. Plan was for 15 miles for my long run. Decided to try the Badlands trail back out to Center Bridge road. The trail had an about an inch of new snow, with a little snowmobile traffic. It wasn't really soft and loose, pretty good traction with spikes. I decided to try wearing my road shoes to see if it would help my left arch/ankle from getting sore. Headed out to the intersection then took the Badlands trail down the hill and across the bog. There was another big hill on the other side and it came to an intersection. I went right to head for the road. It went back down hill gradually. It wasn't even 2 miles out to the road. Turned around and headed back. The wind and snow in my face wasn't great and I had take my gloves on and off the whole run. Got back to the intersection and was about 0.3 miles short of 5, so I went back towards the parking lot for .3 and turned back around so I would only need to go out 4.5 miles. The south wind and snow was annoying, but was glad the wind was going to be at my back on the return. My left foot felt ok,could still feel it a little but not as bad as with my adidas. Got to the Bradford intersection and saw snowmachine traffic on the loop. I needed 0.8 miles to get to 9.8, then it would be 4.5 back from the intersection. Ran out the Bradford loop til I hit 9.8 then turned around. Once back at the intersection I stopped for a GU. I was starting to feel my left IT band getting tight. But on the way back it never got any worse and seemed ok at the end. I stopped a couple time to stretch my lower back to keep it from getting sore. The snow had stopped and wind had also died down. Stopped for a bit at the beaver bridge before the final push to the end. Stopped again at the big intersection to stretch my back. My left groin was getting a little sore and legs were a little tired. Made it back to the car ok, but the snow was starting to soften and balling up in my spikes. Glad I finished when I did.

This was a good long run. It was a challenge mentally though especially at the start. The Badlands trail was kinda sucky, maybe because of the big climbs. Legs ok later and my left foot ankle was a little sore, but nowhere near as bad as after wearing the adidas.

Gear: UA tights, wool socks, short tech T, long W2B tech T, headband, gloves (on and off) water pack.
