Brooks Radius -- Imminent Demise (Read 2000 times)

dork.major dork.

I just bought what I think is my 5th pair of Radius shoes. I love them, and was sad when the guy at the running store yesterday told me that Brooks is going to stop manufacturing them in July (I almost bought all the pairs they had in the basement). I tried on some Asics something-or-others while I was there. So, first of all, heads up. Secondly, what exactly do I love about these shoes? They are neutral footbed, not too squishy, big toebox... what else do they have that I should look for in my future shoes? Thirdly, has anyone been a Radius fan and happily switched to another model/brand?

I never tried the Radius, so I can't comment directly on your question. However, you might want to look at the Brooks Defyance, which I think most closely overlaps the Radius in the Brooks shoe universe. Its a neutral mid-weight shoe (exact same weight as the Radius, in fact), large toebox, not squishy. In sum, its an Adrenaline without the medial post. Runners World gave it an Editors Choice, and I give an unqualified thumbs up. In fact I just today ordered my 2nd and 3rd pair.

I was disappointed that they were discontinuing the Radius as well. They were my first non Nike running shoe and I am very pleased with them. Like Berner said try the Defyance since I was told that is the basic replacement for the Radius. You can also do a search online for the shoe at other places. The good thing about doing that would be that you could probably get them pretty cheap. I bought another pair from FinishLine.com for $54.00 and they were down to $49.00 but they sold out of them in my size. So check it out.

sad to hear that they were discontinuing the radius. I was planning to purchase one because of the rave reviews but I was sad to hear that they were not in in production... Sad

I enjoyed the Brooks Radius also. Nice wide toe box. I mixed in the  Saucony Trigon Ride and simply loved this shoe also until they put a leather piece across the bunion area. I could not wear them since. I did round up about 3 pairs on the internet though. I have gone through 2 of them. Currently I run in these and also have purchased the Saucony Getgo which I like. I also have the Brooks Ghost which is good. They are both a tad lighter than normal I think but plenty durable. I would say the Getgo has a bit wider toe box and they both have mesh in the bunion area.  These are some options for you. I would try the Saucony Trigon Ride 2 first  if I were you.

BTW, the Defyance didn't work for me.
