Forums >Off the Beaten Path>Need a new TV show into which I can sink the teeth of my mind
Not sure what is on Netflix and what is available elsewhere. Here is what I watch:
1) Shameless
2) Game of Thrones
3) Walking Dead
4) Homeland
5) House of Lies
6) Older episodes of Californication

Sherlock (Amazon Prime)
Veronica Mars (I think Amazon Prime)
They have the first season of The Americans on Amazon Prime. Will start that this week. Added Psych to my list. Almost ready to start up Dexter again, which is a show that has me so on edge all the time it can be excruciating. I guess it's because I care about Dexter so much, which is the mindpoon of that show, and many shows since The Sopranos--psychopaths and sociopaths that are just so likable (which is actually a trait of such people--they can be charming) and whom we root for salaciously. All the shows from HBO have to come as DVD's on Netflix, which is the cheaper way to go for a binge-watch as compared to paying $1.99 per show for some of them on Amazon. Thanks for all these awesome suggestions. You've freed me from Netflix hell. I like Netflix, but don't like how they over-suggest with things like "Since You Watched Crumb..." . Many times I've watched something for 5 minutes, and then I get a month of suggestions based on a show I never watched. It feels like they've shrunk my universe of possible picks, and I'm getting the same 200 suggestions over and over. Takes work to break through it.

Not sure where you are in Dexter, but don't bother watching past season 6.

Just watched the pilot of The Americans. It's rare to see a pilot that good. Complex, real depth....great writing. If it follows the "it gets better" route, and stays plausible (unlike Homeland), then it could be incredible. Keri Russell...when did she get so kickass? The lead actor was very good on the show Brotherhood, and even better here. Early 80's is fun to see. Kids typing on a typewriter and dial phones on long curly chords. Big boaty Oldsmobiles (those and the big LTD's were great for partying road-trips in college). Risky Business-like soundtrack. Going for the ride. Thanks for the suggestion.
p.s. good to see Richard Thomas (John-boy) doing some acting. He had a small guest role.

I started re-watching The X-Files while running on the dreadmill and nowhere biking through endless polar vortexes. The first season is cheesier than I recall, but after that it's really just as gripping as I remember.

I like the Blacklist on NBC. Pretty involved and intricate show.
So bittersweet,This tragedyWon't ask for absolution; This melody,Inside of me,Still searches for solution.A twist of faith,A change of heart Cures my infatuation.A broken heart, Provides the sparkFor my determination.
I've been rewatching it during the current void, and still holds up. A unique universe. Sometimes, it's hilarious (like Dreamland 1+2 in Season 6 or Jose Chung's From Outer Space in Season 3). Great stuff.

The ginormous CRT monitors and HUGE cell phones crack me up...and corded phones. And landlines. And no digital cameras.
And they always stay in seedy motels. If someone smokes, they smoke Morley's (especially Cancer Man). Mulder has no bed, and likes his porn. The episode with the guy with the tail who could shapeshift was very funny. Especially the speech he gives Mulder at the end about wasting his good looks.
Hip Redux
We did that a few years ago. I still loved it the second time around and forgot how creepy some of the episodes were.
My favorite was when someone takes over Mulder's body and practices saying EFF BEE EYE in the mirror. (looks like that would have been Season 6 epi 4 "Dreamland")
Eureka is my all time favorite show. Castle is a close second.

Eff...bee...eye!
<3 Castle. Mostly because I have inappropriate thoughts involving Nathan Fillion.
