Would you count training runners longer than 26.2 miles as "marathons"? (Read 418 times)

A marathon is 26.2 miles.   Running 28 miles is not technically a marathon distance.  I ran a marathon by myself last summer.  I ran the same exact course as the real marathon there 6 months before.  I had someone there holding the ribbon when I finished, I staged water areas and I made myself a finishing medal.  I consider this as a marathon but no one else decided to show up. However, if I just decided to go out and run 30 miles, it is not the same thing.

If I ran 26.2 miles I would count it as a miracle.

If I ever ran 26.2 miles it would only be because it was a bonafide race.

If someone asks me how many half marathons I have run, I answer three. My weekly 13.9 mile long runs aren't anything like racing a half.
