i finally qualified for Boston. tried to look for hotel tonight and looks like many are either booked for 2015 already or perhaps they aren't offering them yet.
any thoughts on this? Best areas to enjoy atmosphere at reasonable price?

You might look into Condo rentals. I found one thru AIRBNB for less than a hotel and it is walking distance from the finish and the North End. Now, this was for this year and I think I booked last September...

Congratulations on the big accomplishment.
Last year I found that hotels did not offer bookings more than a year in advance. So, maybe wait until April 22nd.
As for the vibe -- too much on offer in such a wonderful place. Little Italy is probably great bang for the buck . . . and I hear they have pasta.

I went through this last year. The hotels weren't taking bookings this far in advance, and when they did open up, they were already booked.
Don't panic! It seems that marathontours.com prebooks most of the available rooms, so make your bookings through them. I have no complaints about them.
