Giant Flaming Dork

Is anyone going to this? This is a relatively small HM in a small city in CT, so I don't expect anyone else from RA to be there. However, the DW and kids have expressed no interest in waiting around for 2+ hours while I slog out my first HM. I guess I need to train more - so I can run faster... Wink

Not me. Just wanted to say good luck in your HM. My wife and kids don't like to sit around and wait on me at races either, unless it's something short like a 5K.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I usually take the smaller of the two DDs on my 5Ks. Yes, it slows me down, but she loves it. Also, it's fun to PR with the jogging stroller when your previous PR was without it!

Mark, I'm aware of this race and it was my back-up HM. I ran my first HM on June 1st in Simsbury. I had book marked the Lake Compunce as a back-up in case for some reason I couldn't run on the first or had a poor run or hadn't finished it. However since I had a decent run for my First HM and made my goal which was to run sub 1:45 with a pace of 8:00-8:05 (actual was 1:44:26 7:58 pace), I decided that I'm not planning another HM until Sept, concetrating more now on speedwork and hills and breaking my 5K and 10K PR (I already broke my 5M PR this year). Sounds like a great course and the weather looks good for the weekend. Good luck and make sure to come back and give us a report.

Good luck on your HM Saturday Mark! You said small HM, no HM is small, that's an accomplishment. Wink

What a neat little half marathon. 99 people started, 99 people finished. I came in 69th. I came in thinking I would probably run a 2:11 (10mm), but was shooting for faster. My 'A' goal was 2:05 and the dream goal was 2:00. Inexplicably, either I pulled or had a cramp in my left calf in mile 1 that I had to run through the entire time(even after warming up.) I set myself up for success by running first 10 miles of the rolling hills in 1:33. While I dropped the whole group I was running with over the first 10 miles, I was unable to find the kick that I needed and finished in 2:03:30. I am ecstatic that I did so well in my first half-marathon, but disappointed that I really came close to 2 hours without making it. While I would love to blame the calf (or the monster 100' hill in the last mile), the biggest contributing factor was the month of low miles due to business travel. All in all it was a well run race, and nice to do a small race event. I'll be back next year.
