RIP Milkman

This one is really & truly flat. The only "hill" is the ramp on and off the boardwalk. For the entire race, there is 3 feet in elevation change.

What's the wind like for that race? I would think it could be pretty tough if it's on the boardwalk.

What's the wind like for that race? I would think it could be pretty tough if it's on the boardwalk.

The spring race is out and back, boardwalk for about the first & last 3-ish miles, then road. I've done the rae 3 times. First time no noticeable wind. Next 2 were miserable. Gale & freeze warning in 2016 and then rain & wind in 2018.

If you're familiar with the AC area, the worst wind seems to be near the turnaround in Longport. When you are close to the casinos, I've run right next to the buildings for a bit of relief.

It's the type of race if you get lucky and the weather is good, it is a really fast course.

I wonder if this will still go on. It looks well isolated and socially distanced.

$130 for the half. Below sea level and mostly rolling hills I think.

Inyo County COVID 19 information. Should be off lockdown by race day.

A California town reclassified all outdoor dining as “public seating areas” following the county’s announcement of enhanced COVID-19 restrictions.

Manhattan Beach officials issued an order last week that allows outdoor seating at restaurants to stay open and be designated as public seating.

I am not sure what you "fixed".  I am consistently critical of bad behavior regardless of political affiliation.  But you seem completely blinded by your Trump hatred to the point you can't see past it, and attach any disagreement with your position to it.  You consistently support an "ends justifies the means" philosophy, defending any behavior consistent with your beliefs, regardless of the long-term consequences of supporting anti-Constitutional behavior.  Your state's Supreme Court has ruled the Governor's behavior un-Constitutional, but you continue to rally about them preventing her from "protecting you".  So you advocate for tyranny inconsistent with the state Constitution while ripping Trump for similar behavior.

Here's a thought -- outside of totalitarian regimes with the ability to completely control their people in a way not consistent with our Constitution, no country has been able to contain this virus and guarantee the population's safety.  So your best bet is to take ownership of your own safety and stop crutching it on the government.  My parents have spent 10 months in complete isolation, it sucks but it's effective.  Locally the school situation just reached the point we are electing to pull our kids out until we see how things go after the New Year, cases are just too high to think it isn't coming home within weeks at most.  They hate it but it is what it is.

Shun contact, get vaccinate when it's available to you.  Abandon the illusion that a Democrat in charge (or a cloth mask) is going to create some miracle difference in what is going to happen over the next few months.  It is a medical miracle that we now have an approved vaccine which will soon be making a difference.  It's a fact this was enabled by Trump's administration.  It's sickening to see people so filled with hate that they can't appreciate how special this is and need to politicize it.  You don't need to like him to appreciate how exceptional this vaccine development experience has been.

So Biden is going to come in with his mask mandate.  We already have mask mandates.  I ask you, unless we have the Mask Gestapo arresting/fining people, what is the change from the status quo?  Bought a vehicle today, we wore our masks plenty of people in/around the dealership weren't taking it too seriously.  What's really going to change?

Here's the thing -- the American public sees our leader at the top making comments and tweets like this. There's a reason so many are so lax about protecting themselves and others. We've been lied to at every turn...since before we even knew there was a single Covid case in the US. We could be doing better -- as other industrialized nations are -- had appropriate communication, truth, and Science been conveyed from the get-go. Instead we are literally doing the very worst. Nearly 300k Americans have paid the price. By the time we're all vaccinated that # could very well double, at the exponential rate infections are rising. I worry greatly about my ER/ICU staff friends, including my BFF.

I'm not sure why you're so concerned with my governor's adherence to the Constitution. How do you feel about my congressman signing-on to throw out my state's election results (but only the presidential ballots, not his own congressional win, naturally)? Whitmer still holds a strong approval rating with over half of the citizens of MI. Can Trump make the same claim at any point in the past 4 years? The guy has lost the popular vote twice. Clearly I'm not the only one who loathes him. I was very aware of him in the 1980s. My disdain for him is not new, nor is it bourn out of blindness (check out the # of his Tweets that have been tagged for misinformation. Daily). He and his grifter family cannot be out of our White House soon enough.

Trump is not responsible for the Pfizer vaccine. Pfizer's R&D was not part of Warp Speed. The Trump administration refused to commit to enough doses from Pfizer to get anywhere near herd immunity. Had Moderna and other companies not successfully created their own vaccines we'd be pretty fucked. 1/7 of Americans vaccinated would be no mark of success. My gratitude and respect goes to Scientists and the medical workers turning themselves inside-out to keep as many of us as possible on this side of the dirt.

And, yeah, I've been isolated since my state first locked-down. He's the laundry list of ventures outside of the home since March (aside from runs/bike rides with members of my household):

                    2 CT scans

1 follow-up oncology appt (and another this Thurs)

                    1 colorectal surgeon yearly exam

                    3 pharmacy stops

                    4 infusion port flushes

                    3 blood draws

                    2 PCP visits

                    mammogram

                    bone density scan

                    dentist

I'm long overdue for an eye exam and really in need of that, but the risk of that doesn't seem worth it. I've also been cutting my own hair and my kid's hair. We haven't eaten in a single restaurant. My kid is a full-time essential worker. So no matter how careful I am, 5 evenings/week he comes home and I wonder if that will be the time he brings Covid-19 along with him. Our hospitals on this side of the state are all at 100% ICU occupancy. I'm asthmatic and missing a lung lobe (thanks, Cancer!). My odds of surviving this if it hits my lungs hard would be poor, at best. My odds of even more bodily damage on top of Cancer's collateral damage are shit, too. No ICU is going to view me in the same way as a healthy 47 year old woman, either, regardless of my overall fitness.

I spent one afternoon with a friend this Summer. She was home with a young baby and had not seen anyone outside of her household in 6 months and was desperate to spend time with an adult other than her spouse. My son hasn't seen his girlfriend in months.

My congressman only keeps getting re-elected by single-issue anti-choice voters. Save all the babies, but screw Grandma, disabled, and chronically ill!

Ableists can get bent, too. I'm done hearing defenses of Trump on top of telling me that I need to remain imprisoned at home indefinitely while they selfishly make minimal sacrifices. I've barely been out in public in 4 years, aside from endless medical appointments and surgeries.

Things haven't changed. He didn't build that vaccine. Someone else made it happen.

How many vaccines failed? Pfizer offered it to him in the summer. I don't think ANYONE knew what the success rate was for the COVID 19 vaccine Pfizer was putting out yet President Trump was supposed to order a whole bunch. Why? Because it says Pfizer? Weren't there three or four failed vaccines before Pfizer annoucned 94% success rate? I know you hate President Trump. Just maybe back off blaming EVERYTHING that happens on him. After all. Where he got with his vaccine wasn't his own. Six months ago Trump should have ordered an extra 100,000,000 vaccine doses from Pfizer.

                            From the linked article above.

"The drug company told the Times that “any additional doses beyond the 100 million are subject to a separate and mutually acceptable agreement,” but did not elaborate on how much time an additional contract would take to fulfill."

Maybe Pfizer should have PRODUCED more of the vaccine since COVID 19 is so deadly and they knew how successful their vaccine was. Maybe Genentech should have offered to start making it as soon as Pfizer showed promise of a vaccine and had billions of vaccines ready to go to final production starting Saturday morning. Apparently it's all Trumps fault. He didn't build this vaccine and he didn't build the recovery of COVID 19 either. I've said it many times and I'll say it again. Joe Biden is going to save us all from COVID 19. Zoom-Zoom just makes it so obvious to me.

                                3) How do you feel about my congressman signing-on to throw out my state's election results (but only the presidential ballots, not his own congressional win, naturally)?

                                4) Whitmer still holds a strong approval rating with over half of the citizens of MI. Can Trump make the same claim at any point in the past 4 years?

                                5) Trump is not responsible for the Pfizer vaccine. Pfizer's R&D was not part of Warp Speed.

                                6) The Trump administration refused to commit to enough doses from Pfizer to get anywhere near herd immunity. Had Moderna and other companies not successfully created their own vaccines we'd be pretty fucked.

                                1) You mean the President who tried to shut down travel from infected countries, only to have Biden and the rest of the Democrats label him a racist for doing so?  He's good at sticking his foot in his mouth but let's not blindly pretend the Democrats got this right.

                                2)  Really?  un-Constitutional behavior by any leader doesn't concern you?  It concerns me, regardless of whether I agree with their objectives or not.  You've made it clear it does not concern you if you agree with them, and that's scary stuff right there.

                                3)  Who cares?  It's irrelevant.  You've buried yourself in a binary echo chamber where it's "us vs them".  You've lost the ability to converse with people who can see mistakes on both sides.  I can both be against the un-Constitutional actions of a governor and fruitless lawsuits.

                                4) Once again, all you see is "us vs Trump", and to boot, you think popularity has anything to do with following the Constitution.  A 99.9% approval rating does not justify un-Constitutional actions, unless that level of support leads to Constitutional amendments allowing that behavior.  That is exactly the sort of "tyranny of the majority" our Founders made sure we were protected from.

                                5)  Pfizer is utilizing Warp Speed's logistics.  They didn't take federal dollars but they are involved with the program.  Pfizer is only the first (by a little) and the followers soon coming up were absolutely accelerated by Warp Speed.

                                6)  This is simply ignorance.  Ignorance is not a bad thing, except when it is willful and exercised in a manner which does not seek to address said ignorance, and you've shown no will to learn.  If you had read posts I made earlier in this thread, you would have a basic level of understanding that mRNA vaccines are a new technology which have never been scaled beyond a few thousand doses before.  Being a literal expert in the underlying technology (I've met Uger Sahin multiple times, he is a wonderful and humble man), I'm amazed at the speed with which this has scaled under necessity in a relatively affordable fashion.  You really don't understand how amazing this has been.  But it is simply a fact that mRNA vaccine production has been fundamentally limited by the fact that the materials need to produce them have never been scaled before, so that scaling had to take place before the vaccines themselves could be scaled.  So this put limits on peak manufacturing capacity in the first months of production.  And it is not trivial to go from 1000 dose batches to 1,000,000 dose batches if you have any iota of understanding as to how the manufacturing process works.  Before 2020 literally nobody thought we would need to produce millions of doses of mRNA vaccines in the near term.

But it's easier just to wallow in hate and ignorance and blame Trump than listening and learning something.
