Does anyone have an electrolyte supplement in pill form they would recommend? I have been in the habit of drinking a Liquid IV each day for the past year because I really like their strawberry flavor. I am just looking for something in pill form because I can just drink water instead of having to mix it up into a flavored drink. The pill forms could also save a little money too.

Flavio - That's pretty funny, I like that.
Speaking of vacations, I'm looking to burn some airline miles and hotel points later this year. I keep checking the different "discount trips" from the airports within 3 hours drive of me. It's odd that I can already find plane tickets to Europe or Japan for the same as flights to a city that would be a 10 hour or less drive away.
      Finally - Mbappe! Mbappe! Mbappe!

My flights to San Fransisco cost £315 return which is over 5000 miles from the UK, but I’ve just paid £276 for flights to Belfast later this week which is only 340 miles. I guess SF really is a hell hole which nobody wants to visit!

JoshWolf - I’m not sure if you’re joking or being serious 😂    I’ve been in a Volkswagen Beetle back in my youth and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. 👎

ETA - An original Beatle and he was a great bass player. 👍

Flavio - NFL is just horrifically tedious. On average the games last 3 hours, of which the ball is in play for 11-20 minutes.  The average punter watching the game probably covers more distance getting up to go to the bathroom and the kitchen than most of the players do.

I'm no great fan of rugby union for the same reason, but on average the ball is in play for 30-35 minutes, out of the 80 minutes of game time.  A lot better than NFL but they still spend over half their time doing nothing.  Rugby league is significantly better where they are actually playing for about 60 minutes out of the 80 minutes.

RP - whether or not you like the Beatles, you can't deny that they were probably the most influential group of the 20th century. Modern rock and metal wouldn't exist in its current form without them.

Mikkey - those flights are insanely cheap (the SF ones).  You'd probably pay close to 3x that to travel from NZ to SF.

LOL at people who enjoy soccer calling American football tedious! Ball in play does not equal excitement. I’d rather sit for 3 hours to watch 11-20 minutes of things actually happening, than sit for 90 minutes to watch 90 minutes of guys randomly kicking a ball around. But in the end, people like what they like. I know nothing about soccer strategy, so that description is just what it looks like to me. I do enjoy the NFL, but my favorite sport of all is baseball. To the untrained observer, it looks like nothing is happening, but every pitch is a strategic battle. But I realize it is boring AF to most people, and I would never try to convince them otherwise.

If you played American Football with the same amount of time in play as Rugby, the guys on the line weighing 300-350 lbs would fall over dead from exhaustion. Are there any fat guys in Rugby?

As someone who loves American Football at the college level, I find the play of Rugby 7's very fascinating due to the fast-paced action. My cousin plays Rugby at University of Washington and when I told him this comment he responded, "Rugby 7's is fun if you are really fast but if you are big and slow like me, Rugby 7's is a nightmare".

              Hi guys!

Sorry for being absent for so long. But it is a long story... Smile A story about making changes and not getting it good enough, getting obstacles left and right, getting discouraged and thinking about going back to where it was good enough...

Anyway... Of course, not sure, if many are interested to hear, but that's the beauty of virtual communication - I will spew it out anyway (funny - I came out with 'spew out' on the fly - it is not in my active vocabulary as my English is pretty basic but somehow it came out from deep inside of my tired brain .

              b

So, I was totally immersed in strength training - 3 days a week, barbell - squat, bench press (overhead press), deadlift. Was making progress, seeing some resemblance of muscles. But was having difficulties with my squat and increasing the weight - so, I started to work on correct form. One day I was trying to place my arms correctly behind my back and in doing so, I placed them close enough and so uncomfortable that I got some pinch/kind of a resemblance of electric shock if I can try to find a close comparison, in my right arm and then felt that I have some numbness in my right arm. It was uncomfortable, but I still continued with the session. It was still unusually numb, so, I started to check it. And... FFS, I realized that I cannot get my bicep hard on my right arm.. Left arm - hard bicep (yes, small one, but hard) - no bicep on right arm - just a soft tissue. The funny thing that I could continue doing press or bench press, could do dumbbell one arm row without much problem, but I could not even curl 10 lbs with right arm and my chin-ups went from 8 in a row to 2-3. I was so discouraged, I scheduled appointments with specialists, did MRI and they found nothing. They said  they don't see any damage and told me that in 6-8 week it should get back to normal. 5 weeks later, yes, I have only slight numbness, but no improvements in bicep situation. At all Sad I got so discouraged with all that stuff, I stopped running and strength training for almost 2 weeks - I just felt absolutely unmotivated Sad

Feel better now. It's actually time to start training for CIM if I want to have at least some decent time competing with Mikkey. It's also funny to see how with detraining your rest HR goes to something like 62-64 when just a few months ago it was 52-54! So, yes, back to running more, at least that treated me well and I knew what injuries were about Smile. I am still determined to continue with strength training as I am sure 100% it is a MUST thing to do at my age and beyond.

Oh... Yes.. One more negative happened also that put me deeper in down state - a guy whom I was in my Russian University back in the days, died from brain tumor - was totally healthy, sharp mind, very interesting guy - just died within several months. This is so reminds you about reality Sad

              Anyway....

European football - I used to be huge fan of that sport. I played it quite seriously. I loved it. Champions League games were my party time. With age I lost interest though, not tracking it much. And I agree with Dave on sports in general - if you look deeper in any sport, you will find that the skills players in those sports have are absolutely amazing. And if I had more time, I would enjoy american football, baseball, football, hockey, basketball, tennis, etc... It's just seems like a huge waste of time though - just watching, at this point of life, I would better go and run - much better time spent.

Running... Yes... Last few years I clearly discovered that if I have an anxiety or I am in a bad mood, I need to run. 1 hour run heals any depression, anxiety or anger... It's absolutely best medicine in the World - there is no question about it. Cold shower comes close to it Smile Many people look at me strangely when I am telling them that - ha-ha - I just want to help them, there is no magic pill, but running is as close as it gets to it Smile

Hopefully I am getting back to running again, so, I should be participating with my wisdom more

The funniest thing about cricket is that it's entirely possible to play 5 days of a test match and have a drawn match with no winner or loser.

And yes - there are plenty of fat guys in rugby.  Front rowers are often 130kg+ / 290lbs.  I don't think any forwards playing at the top level would be less than about 100kg, and they probably average around 120kg.  There was one particularly famous front rower, "Big Bill" Cavubati.  He was 160kg or so I think.  Those forwards would all generally be playing for most of the game too with some of them on the field the entire time.  There's only 22 players on the team and 15 on the field at any one time, not 50+ like in NFL.  Sevens is quite different though and you wouldn't see too many front row forward on the field there.

I think we can probably agree that emotional investment is what makes watching any sport interesting.
Knowing a bit about the strategies and intricacies of the game certainly help.
Many years ago I stopped cheering or caring for the Brazilian national Football team as I more and more found them to be a bunch of spoiled brats.
Before that, I'd watch every match on the edge of my seat, my heart pumping at every near goal.
After that, I find it just very boring most of the time now that I don't care anymore about the team.

No worries about fingers - I still have other parts of my body doing ok, getting hard when needed Smile.  But yes, jokes aside - the injury was not about heavy weight - the weights/barbell were sitting on the rack and I was just finding a right position for my arms behind my head, making arms straight and trying to squeeze my shoulders... And boom, just doing this, placing arms for a squat, I've got this - which will probably ends up in not being able to flex my right bicep for the rest of my life. I guess my shoulders are not flexible enough and that's why it happened. And at this point I will just go with incorrect form for squats rather than risking my left bicep to go astray like the right did. But you are right - I still will be able to lift weight and be strong enough to fight losing muscles Smile. Just without right bicep Smile

I ran 13 miles in last two days and my Garmin says I am "overreaching" and in danger to become overtrained

Cal - Sorry to hear about the bicep as that is weird and scary and I’m glad it’s improving 👍.  I’ve always enjoy going to the gym when I’m injured or in between marathons cycles…but when I’m in pure marathon running mode I find it irritating and sometimes end up with a strength training injury.   I’m thinking the key is to just go lighter and forget about what you’re capable of.

Keen originally recommended LMNT to me. I ultimately found it too salty for me: I felt like I was more thirsty after drinking it. But as you can see from his response, that's exactly what he was looking for.

I have used SaltStick otherwise, and enjoy it for exactly the reason you said: I can bring it on a route with me with a water fountain and I don't even need to carry water bottles at all. Just pop the pill, drink from the fountain, and move on.

Cal - what specialists have you seen? Sounds like something a PT may be able to work through with you if you haven't tried. Either way, that sucks, and I'm sorry about your friend. It does help to put a lot into perspective though, no matter what we're going through.

RP - whether or not you like the Beatles, you can't deny that they were probably the most influential group of the 20th century. Modern rock and metal wouldn't exist in its current form without them.

Just because people regurgitate this hogwash rubbish doesn't make it true. I guess Taylor Swift is the most influential musician of the 21st century. I'd never known way "taylorgating" was until recently.

The Beastie Boys were more influential than the Beatles. The difference is Boomers don't like the way young kids dress unless it's a suit and tie. They also consider the 20th century to start around the time Elvis was popular, and end shortly after they landed their career job.
