James - Damn. I’m 6’3” and can’t imagine getting down to 120. Even when I was lactose intolerant, didn’t know it and was getting sick constantly...only got down to 150.

DPS - classic mistake of getting out too fast in a 5k! But I think most people do, it's hard to hold back when the distance is so short, plus you just don't know what 5K pace feels like if you haven't done it in a while.

Me - signed up for a 5K next weekend. I'm 0-2 right now (bad race plus race cancellation) so I would like 2 more cracks at it this summer. Weather has been beautiful here lately, with temps in the 80s but low humidity. Hopefully that continues for another 9 days.

@jmac exactly. They sent people out in waves (sub 6 min, sub 7 min sub 8 min etc.) with plastic nets seperating each wave based on pace but it was self determined. Because there was 5000 people registered. Even so there were many people in the first wave who very clearly should not have been there so I made sure I was in the very front....but as you said not having done any track workout with pacing...everything below 620 just feels like sprinting.

Just accomplished my goal and ran 1:27:57. I am 17 years old, 6', and weigh 138 pounds. I went out slow, 6:48 pace for the first 3 miles. Established my place then surged up fast miles 5-8, running in the low 6:30's and even high 20's. Sun started coming out and legs were tense, cruised through 9 and 10. Began to slow down to 6:50 pace but was able to hold on and finish in 5th place. Will definitely need to incorporate even longer runs into my future scheduale for the muscle fatigue i felt the last 3 miles. 9 miles insnt going to cut it anymore. Happy to get my goal .
Rather odd that the old model is more expensive.

Royce - Nice job! Do you run XC for your high school (or possibly college) team? What was some of your mileage looking like for your training?
DP - I say it everytime I race....going to negative split and run conservative for the first mile and then pick it up. Best way to race. However, many times I get sucked into the fast group and suck air during that last mile. The draw of the fast group is just too much sometimes.
Yesterday I "raced" a local 4 miler. Actually just ran with an old athlete of mine and paced her through to about 30 min for the 4 miler. Fun seeing the competition from another angle. But the 9:40 cool-down tested my limits of how slow I could comfortably go.
Yeah CC. Going on a neg split will be vital on my half marathon as there are brutal hills the last 4 miles. I have ran them 30 odd times cause the course goes past my cabin, but they are the first part of my run instead of the last part because of were the cabin is relative to the start of the race. If I'm already gassed...those last four miles may be 10 min miles.
JMac - fingers crossed the weather holds, you have had a rough run of luck with it!

Watson - yeah that was odd, the older one is a Flyknit version which tends to be more expensive.

DPS - it helps that you know those hills already as you'll know what to expect. I always find that makes it a bit easier.
Schumacher your Strava shows in kms to me and your 2nd km was a 3.05 which is bloody impressive even if too fast.
Mark the flyknit are more expensive as they have to pay a team of grandmas to hand knit the upper. It takes them 6 months and lots of cups of tea and scones.
Cc4life I have never just participated in a race for fun. I should do it to try and overcome my negativity towards racing. Sounds like your cooldown was nearly a walk

So each relay team is 6. My team is 2 X 3.4km, 3 X 2.5km and 1 X 0.9km. Aim is now 13:59 on a moderately slow course. Some teams are slightly different distances - the teams are expected to take 1:17:XX to finish.
Piwi- I try to do a bunch of races with our local running club. They are just $3 and it gives me someone to run with. I can win some of the races occasionally which may get me an assorted prize like a pie or bag of animal crackers. Ha. But I don’t usually run most of these races all out so it’s more enjoyable.
Workout today was 2x2 mile tempo with 4x200 at the end. I didn’t go to the track so I did a one mile out and back. It was rolling hills but the out was definitely more up and ended on a decent uphill. Goal was 6:14 splits or 12:28 for the 2. I ran 6:06,6:03 for the first and 6:06, 6:14. 2 min rest between them. A little faster than I was supposed to go but it’s tough to judge with the course. Overall I think it was okay. 200s were tiring but fine just like Wednesday.
Ran 13:24 for 3.32km (my GPS). Pacing was good. About 300m grass, 700m dirt/gravel, and the rest concrete.
Back to decent mileage after averaging only 23 mpw for the last five weeks. A number of niggles on different days (hamstrings, top of left foot, cold, chest soreness, shins, right calf), but nothing seems serious. Weather was pretty mild - morning temperatures in the low 80s/28ish and less humidity than usual. 16 weeks until my goal half, so I need to start easing into tempo runs and speedwork. Also looking at a 10K in five weeks.

Cc4life excellent work on the 2 x 2 mile. I have to convert but if I did my math right your splits are around 3.45/km.
I finished my week by joining in a big group run. There was supposed to be 2 groups 4.30/km and 5.00/km but we kinda hung together. Some went on to run further by I stopped at near 20kms which is my longest for a while.
My week was 72kms/45 miles. I had no plan each day but just ran when I had time. I did some faster efforts namely 5 firstname.lastname@example.org/km within one run and 10x100m strides on another. Nothing amazing but building some fitness.
