I couldn't keep up with him, period. How far doesn't enter the equation.

Right on Hereford...
Great hypothetical question! It really helps provide a perspective on just HOW much better the elites are than the rest of us. I have no idea how long I could keep up with Haile. Maybe 400 meters?
The entire way.....assuiming he would allow me to ride my motorcycle while he runs.
I've never tried an all-out mile, or even an all-out quarter for that matter. I would need 71 second quarter speed to keep up and I don't think I've ever gone below 80 in training. Maybe I'll try it some time and see but I doubt I could break 75. I'll go with 150 meters for my answer.
Ah. So perhaps you are the world's slowest fast guy?
Why is it sideways?
We can put this ridiculous marathon into perspective. Geb averaged 4:43 per mile for 26.2. This is 2:22 per half and 71 per quarter. How many of you can... Run a 71 second 400 for 105 straight days (26.2 mile distance) OR Run a 2:22 800 for 52 straight days (26 mile distance) OR Run a 4:43 mile for 26 straight days OR if you really feel bold Run a 9:26 3200 for 13 straight days OR in all impossibility Run a 61:59 half marathon in 2 straight days
