Then of course there's the whole explaining how getting in to Boston works. I have a FB friend who lives in Chicago and is a little bit of a runner but not super serious. I had made a few comments on the Boston FB page. They must have shown up on her news feed, and she must have started reading some of the comments about cutoff times. She posts "Chicago has an OPEN marathon." OK then.

Yep, people here don't understand how it works. And to be honest, I didn't either until I wanted to run it myself.
That being said, my name has now been entered in the lottery. Crossing my fingers...
No, it's my lead escort vehicle (honestly, I have no idea, I don't think I even noticed it at the time)
Kidding! I know you're super fast.
But I can joke since I've actually been chased by the sag wagon before.
Super B****

I finished second-last in my first half. They didn't even HAVE a sag wagon.
chasing the impossible
because i never shut up ... i blog
I feel like Vaseline stains my clothes and Aquaphor washes out just fine.
Yeah that was my initial concern. Then at some point I stopped caring about it as much.
Ha! I can beat that though. My parents know about my marathons but I haven't talked much about running otherwise. My dad once asked something like "do you also run between marathons, just to keep in shape?"
My parents have no idea that I've run a marathon. Or what that is. Or that I'm training to do it again. They just think I run sometimes to not get fat. So yeah. To be fair, my parents live 3000 miles away and I talk to them maybe once every 2-3 months.
MrWhiskers has done a few triathlons and they always ask him if he won.
Because last time I got my BQ and then didn't run another marathon for 18 months, which I don't think helped me run said marathon. (I would have done one this fall even if I did make the cutoff for 2019 for just that reason.)
I sure hope you don't get a hot year in 2020
I lost my rama
That's my most favorite question of them all! At some point, I'll say yes, but I can't bring myself to that (right now).
LRB - You're just giving yourself excuses to get more race t-shirts. It's a slippery slope (no pun intended).
Dave - Nothing wants me to throat punch someone (non-runner) more than the Boston question. I was so close, yet so far. I'll happily live Boston vicariously through the rest of you though.
3/17 - NYC Half
4/28 - Big Sur Marathon DNS
6/29 - Forbidden Forest 30 Hour
8/29 - A Race for the Ages - will be given 47 hours
I wear my favorite running clothes when I race, and usually they are also the most expensive. I care.
But my preference for Aquaphor actually came during my first winter as a runner when I went for a run before work. I put Vaseline on my face to help prevent wind burn as I have very sensitive skin. It wouldn't wash off completely and my face was shiny all day at work. After I made the switch, I also noticed that the Aquaphor was actually doing a better job for my skin type. Obviously, it's different for each of us. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So have you run Boston?
Oh, yes, I often run marathons on a bicycle.
I realize that, even though it was weird, I made it weirder in ihe translation. She asked the equivalent of "so, you do marathons?". It sounds ok in French. Sorry.
Even true runners will sometimes say they ran a half marathon when they only did the distance. I see plenty of that on Strava. I stopped caring. A local guy who runs more than me went on a Facebook spree on how he'd run a HM a day for a month. You guessed right, it was 13.1 miles per day. Not that it is not impressive, but it's not the same.
What gets me chuckling, too, is when people ask me what time I ran, and they have NO IDEA what it is worth. I think that if I answered 7 1/2 hours, they'd be more impressed as that is a long time.
Warm&fuzzy
If I'd known this during my run, I would have run the extra. But afterwards? Nope. Too much of a hassle to get back out there, shower again, dirty extra clothes, etc. Three fucking days! I'm going a bit crazy. The weather forecast looks pretty good though. High of 55, low of 42 (I'm guessing I'll be done running before it gets to 55...damn weather.com doesn't have the hourly forecast yet). Winds 5-10mph. Sun/cloud mix. In other news, I'm developing a callous in between my littlest toe and second to littlest toe. Hurts like a mofo. So I bought both moleskin and some cushiony bandaid type thing that is supposedly mostly waterproof. OR I could just put a ton of Body Glide on my toes. If you've been in this situation, what have you done? I'm all paranoid about "not doing anything new on race day", but I plan to put it on tonight and wear it for the next day or two to see how either feels. Excuse me while I go eat my anxiety away, in carbs....

Toesocks can be a wonderful thing. I have a few pair left over from my Five Fingers days, and they work great for any toe on toe issue.
Runner with a riding problem.
That's funny. I used to too.
I'm not making a case for one method or against the other, I'm just killing time till it's bar thirty. And ooh lookie, 4 minutes to go. #out
You know, I have some. But I feel like the extra material between my toes adds to the overall width issue, and my NB 1400s don't have that much room.
It had better be perfect
