FriDAILIES! (Read 44 times)

LRB

    Good morning.

Today was one of those days where despite the darkness, ice patches and freshly fallen fluff, I just needed to run outside. So I did. It was more of a slow jog than a run (also known as a slog), but as someone cool recently said to me; beggars can't be choosers.

Good morning, so it was snowing... but it felt more like hail with the 12 mph NNE winds, and it was hard to keep my eyes open. It was 28 degrees but a feels like 18 degrees due to the wind. I managed to get in 8.1 miles though, so happy to have that done.

Now for a hot bath, coffee and being thankful it is Friday.

Good morning and Happy Friday!  Today I am printing W2's, which will be one large project off my plate once it's done.  13,000 forms across nine companies.  What a pain in the ass that reconciliation is.

3 mile easy jog to do later.  Looks like snow will begin tomorrow about two hours after my race.  Good timing.

            Well deserved rest day!

I have a question for those of you who care to answer.

Since I only have time to run 6 miles during lunch, 4 times a week, and I want to add weekly mileage, I decided I'd try doubles. Here is my schedule without the doubles.

            M - Easy

            T - Intervals - VO2Max

            W - Easy

T - Intervals or Tempo or Threshold (a bit slower than Tuesday, but more miles)

            F - off

            S- 8-10 miles easy

S - Long run with MP miles

Where would you run your doubles? On workout days (Tuesday and Thursday)? On Easy days (Monday, Wednesday)?

              Good morning!

Glad you could get outside today, LRB.

I ran 9.1 in the cold rain.  It was fairly unpleasant, but getting it done made me feel better.

I hope everyone has a great day!

9 on the AlterG.  I thought about running outside, but didn't really want to risk aggravating my stupid leg since I have a HM on Sunday.  The fact that it felt like 15° outside made that sting a little less.

Morning!  I have 5 with strides tonight.  Then, I'm taking a friend for dinner and party at Mango's.  Hoping it's not too late of a party because I'm exhausted.

                    You asked for it:

In my opinion, add 15-20 min recovery run M,T,W,T,F.

All other runs on those days shift to evening.

I would find it very hard to bother to change my clothes and get sweaty for a 15-20 minute run.

For marathon training, I think the more runs over 80 minutes you do, the better... so if you can extend those six milers once a week, I would..

Either/or, and keep the added runs at an easy effort.  I say that just based on the training schedules I've been provided in the past.  Sometimes I'd do doubles when both runs are easy, and sometimes I'd have a day with a quality run and an easy run.  I don't like doing doubles on consecutive days.

I'm a lunch runner too. Best results I have adding extras are mornings of workout days - used to be tues and thurs, but last year I pretty much moved to one workout a week.

Anyway, I find that morning run makes the lunch workout just a lot easier to get into. Much looser, ready to go, even though it may seem like "short" rest (4 or 5 hours) between runs. The early run was only ever 4-6 miles and always super easy.

Yup - it's sometimes a bother. However the point of the run is not a workout. It's active recovery - an entirely different animal.

As far as more over 80 min runs you do making you more prepared for a marathon. I can't disagree they will aid in your ability to complete the distance more comfortably.

I do think that that method reinforces slow and steady, and let's face it, we all know how to run slow. Running fast over distance is the hard part.

So I am not personally a fan of my bulk being medium long and long runs.

(yes my MCM plan had a shitload of 14+ milers and I am slowly changing my perspective )

I didn't say slow and steady...   But 6 miles total for a mid-week workout run seems short. If you can make it 11-12 miles total with some intervals or T pace I think it's better?  3/4 of my long runs had quality portions (18 miles progression etc).  I am a big believer in that. I didn't mean to run a bunch of slow runs... but nothing over 6 miles mid-week seems... not ideal.

Thanks. My initial problem I'm trying to solve by running doubles is schedule availability, and the fact that it is winter and it is not reliable to schedule interval sessions outside. It is much more reliable to schedule them on the indoor track and it is near where I work, thus the lunch hour.

So moving my workouts to evenings is not an option I'm considering.

                                Thanks for the suggestion.
