Whithersoever Wednesday Penguins (Read 32 times)

Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

      Whithersoever:  to any place whatsoever

Whithersoever will you go today Penguins?  Whithersoever it is, stay safe, be happy, and run well!

My crazy cat Peanut is home again after a trip to the vet yesterday.  No stitches required, thank goodness.  Vet cleaned him up a bit, said everything looked okay, gave me some antibiotics for him and told me to keep him inside for the 2 nights and then he could go back outside on Thursday.   Of course when he can't go out, he 'cries' like crazy, meowing LOUDLY in complaint.  Worse than a spoiled kid that can't have his way, lol.

After I got him home from the vet, I headed to the YMCA for an easy 3-mile run/walk.  Nice day - sunny, 51 degrees, light wind blowing making it feel a tad chillier than 51, but not bad at all.  I was feeling pretty good and got carried away and went 'exploring' down a couple of streets and ended up with 4 miles total instead of 3.   Today is a rest day as the office holiday party is today after work.

The doctors found Trixie's pancreas inflammed and now believe she might have pancreatitis too or in lieu of liver disease (with liver being affected due to their connection).  They are waiting for the cytology of the liver to decide if a biopsy is reasonable.  She has been treated for both and her numbers improved which is good.  Hoping she continues improving.  She even ate a bit on her own.

          Barking Mad To Run

I am in the minority and have no interest in BQing. In fact I have no interest in running a marathon.

Me, either Dan.  I have done one - in 2000 - and I've never had any desire to ever do another one.  My friend, KarenM from RW forums, always tells me "marathons are addictive."  Well, maybe to her, she's done more than 30 now, I think...but not to me.  One was enough for me.  I am not what you would call "long distance material" as a runner, lol.

              Fear is a Liar

                Good morning Penguins!

scotty - good news for Peanut

Damaris - hope Trixie feels better.

As for me - the home refinance people are driving me crazy. The only time I hear from them is when they need something yesterday !  Having another contractor over tonight for a bathroom quote. Over the weekend we went down to Philly and an interior designer said his bathroom cost $55,000. We did get some free info out of him for design tips. Last nights 7 miler went well even though the roads were beginning to freeze over. Hopefully I'll have time for some kind of run - hopefully during the day cause there will be black ice out tonight for sure.

                Return To Racing

URD.  Back spasms after yesterday's run.  Not a good start to the indoor running season.

Hope the cats are better Scott and D.

                    Hi Pens.

I hope the pets get healthy! That is no good when they are sick.

Gus: don't you just love those guys?

Jerry: sorry about the back. I once tweaked mine pretty badly just by getting out of the car!

Another rest day for me. This is a good time for a bit of a break; good for the mind and body. I have no races on the calendar so two weeks off sounds ok to me. Smile

10 minute mile is the criteria?  I can do one of those.  Or three 12 minute miles.  So take your pick Smile

First 5k road race is Dec 21.  Heck, that's in 10 days.  No idea what conditions will be like. Hopefully not a snow storm, and hopefully not below 20F, and hopefully not raining, and hopefully not too windy.  But other than that, I'm open to a variety of weather conditions.

What will my time be?  My first goal is just to run non-stop.  Ok, brief re-hash of my story.  Was 225 in June, 8yr old son kicked my butt in soccer (the running part of soccer), so I quit soda.  In September, at 212, adults kicked my butt in soccer (both the running and the skills part), so I went on a diet and told my wife I'd run a 5k with her.  Currently 48, m, 5.9, and 188 lbs.  Slowly have run up to 5 miles, but typically slowly just run 3 miles every other day.  Plus one soccer game a weak.  On the odd days I don't run, I just do a made-up routine of sits-ups, push-ups, jumping jacks, squats, bends, leg lifts, arm lifts, and other such fun stuff.  1 day a week is total rest.  Everyone (on the internet, not in real life) says to run more.  Run more.  More miles.  Bigger base.  Run more days.  Blah, blah, blah.  Maybe, but I'm also dieting and trying to lose weight and not injure myself, and hope to get down to 165 before I consider myself not fat.  Shin splints in the past when I ran some XC, and a lot of track in HS,  Also PF back then, and apparently now too.  But the PF only bothers my left heel.  Maybe that was from running hurdles in in track and stays with me from the olden days, or maybe it is because I drive with my right foot on the gas pedal, and only use my right foot on the brake (unlike some of you), thus my left doesn't get as much stretching?  I've purposely been stretching my left more, and the PF seems to be only minimal now.  Any other excuses I can think of for not running more miles yet?

Hope to run 3 miles tonight (in the dark, of course).  But the trail has a couple inches of snow, so it will be tough, and might only get in 2 miles.  I'll see.

                          Singer who runs a smidge

Hi Penguins!!  "Whithersoever" makes me think of Ruth in the Bible, talking to her mother-in-law.  "Whithersoever you will go, I will go.  Your people will be my people and your god, my god.  Where you lie down, there I will make my bed also."  And of course it turned out well in the end, as she followed her MIL and met Boaz, and had a son whom I think was Obed, who fathered Jesse, out of whose line Jesus was born.

So there, that's your Bible lesson for the day.  As for me, I am working, going home, and going to bed, since I didn't sleep well last night.

Scotty -- glad Peanut is doing well!!

Docket -- hope Trixie continues to improve!!

Gustav -- wow, $55k for a bathroom??  That must be a REALLY nice john!!

Jerry -- sorry about the back!!

                            Jack -- enjoy the rest!!

old -- welcome, and enjoy your 3 tonight!!  I don't currently run, but when I do, I'm slower than you.  So it's all good.

kristin -- I have to admit, that month I spent in the boot a few years back was total heaven to me.  I love having an excuse to do nothing!!  I did swim 3x per week though, have you thought of that?  It'll be like the bike -- wear the boot to the pool, take it off to swim, and then put it back on to head back to the locker room.

                            Bin -- Woo-hoo for your 7!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                              Hey everyone!

My car door was frozen shut this morning, gotta love winter. Smile  MLR later today.

Hope everyone has a great day, try to stay warm!
