Seems to be all over the news today. I know of one person who has had it for 3 weeks now. I've never had a flu shot in the decade or so that it's been en vogue.
The argument is that it's coming earlier and more broadly spread among folks this year than other years.
What say ye?

Yea or nay what? If the question is do I get one, then yes. It's free at work and they stop just short of coming to my desk with the needle. They make it very easy for employees to get shots.

I hadn't gotten a shot in the past decade even though I worked in a hospital, and never got the flu. I got the shot this year, but haven't haven't caught the bug (yet). My wife had a baby 6 months ago, so that was the only reason.
They'll tell you that failure is not an option. That's ridiculous. Failure is always an option. It is the easiest and most readily available option. It's your choice though.
I've never had the flu (knocks on all wood within my reach).
I have gotten only three flu shots in my life, both of the last two years since they were free at work, and once in grad school (I went in for my yearly women's health check up, and left with an unexpected tetanus booster, regular flu shot, and swine flu shot. Knocked me out for the rest of the day).
I figure they cant hurt, particularly when I'm marathon training like I am now and I'm doing some long and intense runs that lead to some temporary immune system weakening.

Free through work, and we have a toddler in the house so I would have gone and got one anyway.
Supposedly its a pretty good match to the main strain going round this year, which is pretty nasty.

Already looking to be worse than 2007-8.
Its hovering just below epidemic levels for now, that can easily change.
I get the flu shot at work -- free and very convenient.

LOL! You're right!
Oh, and for the record, Nay! Every time I've gotten a flu shot, I've gotten sick afterwards. Running is my flu shot.

Here’s the thing… the flu shot is based on LAST year’s strains of the virus. If you get one of those, you’ll be mostly okay. This year’s strain is the absolute most disgusting thing I’ve had in quite some time. It put me out of commission for almost a week, to the point where it was hard for me to get out of bed.
So, really, just wash your hands, don’t touch your mouth too much, and stay away from small children.
Not quite.
the three components are based on a prediction of the most likely strains for the coming season.
Specifically for the Northern Hemisphere season (2012-2013)
That's one strain from each of the last three seasons.
The H3N2 (which is based off last season's) is the dominant one right now, and its nasty.

You beat me to it. Here's the link for the full discussion. They do a lot of research in conjunction with the WHO to determine which strains should be included. They are usually fairly successful unless there is something totally new like the H1N1 was a few years ago (the Swine flu).
I work for a healthcare company. It's always free and easy access. I always get it. The last time I had the flu was the last year I didn't get the shot. I was pregnant then (22 years ago) and they didn't recommend it for moms to be. I think now they think the shot is better than the flu and allow pregnant women to take the shot.
Not quite. the three components are based on a prediction of the most likely strains for the coming season. Specifically for the Northern Hemisphere season (2012-2013) an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus; an A/Victoria/361/2011 (H3N2)-like virus; a B/Wisconsin/1/2010-like virus. That's one strain from each of the last three seasons. The H3N2 (which is based off last season's) is the dominant one right now, and its nasty.

Well, that's 3 strikes for me:
I chew my nails constantly, so my hands are always attached to my mouth.
I run a home daycare, so I am around little kids all day with snot, coughs, and sneezes. Kids are great at sharing.....GERMS!
We don't do vax or shots in this house at all as a family.
This year, I am a gonner for sure, just like they say I will be every year. Haven't gotten the flu since I was a teenager. Perhaps I am too stupid to get it
OP, if you want it, get it. They say it isn't too late to do so.

What's the over/under on whether this thread gets more pages than the one in L&O?
Running is dumb.
Given the previous response about lack of vaccines or shots as a family, I'm going to bet the over. Whatever the over/under number happens to be.
