Training was essentially the same details as the Silver Comet.
I got a good week in,, then a taper week.
Lined up near the front, and felt very self conscious until just before the gun a bunch of more competitive runners appeared and lined up.
The half is usually won in around 1:20 and the full in 2:45 or so I knew I shouldn't be right at the front and was glad when they got there.
Nice and cold, the announcer said 34 F I knew this was going to be a "no excuses" type race. Everything was just right, and it was time to perform. Settled into a rhythm nice and early. Splits were fairly even considering the terrain.
Around the half way mark my co-worker appeared on my shoulder and pretty much stuck right there. I tried a surge after mile 10 to drop him (I have never beaten him head to hard in a race), got a little gap, but he came back. He countered in the last mile and his attack succeeded as my legs just couldn't produce any kick. In fact I even got passed by another runner in the last .1 and that almost never happens.
Official Chip time 1:33:48, which was a massive PR. Got to be happy with that and I know I did lay everything I had on the course that day.
