Saturday Penguins - Winter Starts Today? (Read 29 times)

Fear is a Liar

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Fear is a Liar

Good Morning Penguins and a Happy Winter Solstice to you all!

Although most of us have had cold, snow, ice, wind, etc. - the season starts today.

Jack - sorry to hear about your grandma.

As for me - going out for a run in a few minutes before the rain starts.

I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!

Although winter starts today, the glass half-full guy in me says that longer days begin tomorrow.

        Stay cool!

Morning all, winter came in and got 4 this morning at 32 just before the rain.

Jack, sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Damaris, from yesterday, the tiredness is from working too many hours for too long.

            Hi ya Gus, LRB, PAD.

            One more stinking night!

I am still asleep, so I read the title as being: Saturday Penguins - Wine Starts Today?

              Return To Racing

Good morning Gus, LRB, PAD, Mitch and D.

Yay for longer days. Hope we can get a short run in before the sleet starts, or may have to go to the track.

Winter started tmr for Chinese. We have a tradition of eating dumpling which symbolize unity.

Had a good morning breakfast with parents and sister. The best thing is I already banked 8M before that. Didn't really had a good afternoon as I had a pretty nasty cut of abt 2-3cm above my eyebrow and I had to spend 2hrs at the hospital. Pretty sure that's gonna leave a mark. Went to Hi5 concert with the kids and nephew. Not sure if they are popular in US. They are from Australia.

Probably can't run for a few days. Pretty gross the bandage to be absorbing all the perspiration. Ha

                    Barking Mad To Run

A little disappointed about my race this morning being canceled.  The upside is that I did get to sleep in a bit and now I don't have two long drives, as I have a race tonite at 6 PM.  So I can relax around the house today, and then drive 'all fresh' for my 5K tonite.  Actually, I did find another 5K being done before the end of the year, on Dec 28th...but it is in Corpus Christi, which is a 2-hour drive.

No cold, ice, or snow here Gustav...in the 70s today.  We do have a cold front moving in, though...by Christmas, our mornings will be in the 30s....but it will quickly warm up again to the 60s by the afternoon.

I think longer days are here already for us, LRB.  When I did my hill run on Thursday, I finished a little after 6 pm, and there was still  a bit of daylight outside.

                      Congrats on the 4, PAD

Good luck with the night shift, Mitch!

Good luck with your 8, Damaris.  Well, you could have the wine start tonite..after your 8 miles.

Sleet, yuk.  Good luck with that, Jerry!

Sorry about the cut, Bin, how in the world did that happen?  Glad you are okay.

Happy Solstice all.  I agree with LRB - more minutes of daylight is a very good thing.

Bin - How did you get hurt?  Ouch!  Did one of the kids at the concert hit you?  Sounds like you had a good day before that.

Gustav - hope your run went well and you stayed dry.

PADRunner - good job getting your run in early.

Mitch - hope you get a chance to catch up on sleep.

Damaris - enjoy your eight.  How's Trixie.

Jerry - is your track indoors?  I'm not sure running in circles in sleet is much of an improvement to running the streets, though at least you don't have to worry about drivers being blinded by the rain.

Scotty - maybe one of the local running clubs is having a fun run on Christmas morning?  That would count, wouldn't it?  Have fun at tonight's race.

Scotty - maybe one of the local running clubs is having a fun run on Christmas morning?  That would count, wouldn't it?

Well, Ginny, I don't have to worry about it now.  I had chatted with my wife, Gail, about possibly doing the race in Corpus.  I wandered away from the computer for a while and Gail went ahead and gave me an 'early Christmas present" by registering me for the race in Corpus on December 28th.  Not only that, but she also made a reservation for me at Navy Lodge at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station - convenient, as I am retired military, so can stay in the lodging on the base -  so I could go down Friday and do packet-pickup that day and get some sleep before the race on Saturday.  Nice suprise!  She won't be traveling with me, as she is a Scentsy consultant and has an event on Saturday, but told me to just go and have fun and take lots of photos.

So I guess I will be having a little 'travel adventure" next weekend.  The race starts and finishes at Dolphin North Beach in Corpus and the route I saw on the course map gives some nice views of the Gulf along the way.   I checked out the 10-day forecast for Corpus and predicted weather for race day is partly sunny and 63 degrees...nice!

                          Nice wife too!

                          Return To Racing

Got 5 miles on the streets.  Felt good and started fast until we realized there were invisible icy patches.  No sleet yet.   Still maintained 10:30.  No incidents.

                            12 hours until solstice    !!!

Right. I got 4 miles in last night and I think the legs are just now coming back. A little... No run today as I'm still on break. DW and are finishing shopping and we have to go help at grandma's house.

Have be a good day, Pens.  Smile

                                Hello pengs.

Got 5 in today. Last mile lots of drizzle felt great as it was hot mid 70s here and very muggy.
