Weirdest thing someone has warned you will happen to you from running? (Read 509 times)

When I first started running I was told by a friend that I would get shorter because all the pounding on pavements would compact my spine...that's not true. Is it??

Being a slow runner means I get to check out YOUR butt...

This is how I do it... http://nikeplus.nike.com/plus/profile/SarahinShibs/

I've heard that running can make your feet get bigger. I'm already sporting size 12 canoes, I'm hoping it's not true, lol.

Running may not make them bigger, but pregnancy on the other hand ... I went up a full size thanks to my wonderful, wonderful son (and all those great ligament-loosening hormones).

20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.

I have a new theory about this. I think the general population is A) lazy and B) fears what they don't understand. And they don't understand runners. Sure, many people can understand getting a gym membership, going there a few times a weeek, taking some cardio classes or whatever to lose weight or stay in shape. They can't understand people willingly getting up at the crack of dawn, going outside in any and all weather conditions, and running for miles and miles and miles on end. Having training plans. Giving up weekends for races. Our all gadgets and gizmos. Our special clothes and shoes. So they make excuses to make themselves feel better for being lazy, and to mulitply our craziness in their minds. So they say running will just ruin the knees, make you shorter, make your feet grow, make your uterus fall out......anything to make them feel like the sane ones for NOT running miles on end, and us the weirdos!
