Former Bad Ass
D, you ran strong today. Well done! Do you prefer a wider toe box? My right foot has turned mutant on me in the last couple of years and I have a difficult time now wearing Asics because of their narrow toe box. My little toe becomes incredibly sore if I put too many miles in my Asics. I also have a very rigid right big toe that gives me all sorts of problems. Do you do stretching exercises for your toes? I should, but I find it so boring I forget most of the time.
I have the problem with all shoes. It's the arthritic toe. Maybe I can cut it? It has barely no movement at all. I have done the stretches but it still gets stiff.
ETA: Asics are the worse for me. Too much sock bunching.
Damaris
But thanks! They were a bit slower than what I did on the HM but it was 25F warmer. So I am happy.
Oski, glad you are OK.
race obsessed
hmmm...
Due to the not-so-strange obligatory Texas spaz weather my 5k was cancelled on Saturday.
A 5k that was large and I was actually going for a masters win and huge ass trophy. (some damn fine masters racers so it would not have been easy.) But this was Cowtown race weekend and though the kids 5k, adults 5k and 10k were cancelled the Sunday, Half, Marathon and Ultra were a go!
At least until Sometime during Saturdays packet pickup. Where they announced the cancellation of both the Marathon and Ultra. (both of which go off on side streets, neighborhood streets and though park trails that could not be sanded and prepared by morning.
So since I was planning on going out on Sunday and providing support. Maybe help PADrunner though a portion of his marathon I went anyway. The Ultra and Marathoners were offered the chance to run the Half, PAD obliged and I planned on seeing him at the 10 mile mark.
Well... yeah... Running from the 10mi to the race start watching them head off and then back to the 10mi mark. Hanging out and cheering... then after sometime, ran with some of the pack (faster much faster... sorry guys) back to the finish and watching and hanging out. Then finally back to the 10 mi to where I parked (against the flow of the 4 hour Half marathoners) to random shouts of "you are going the wrong way". So... 12 miles. Yay. slow long interval?
Then I call my wife and she is near and about to go for her 5 mi with our 8yo DD. So off I book to go meet and jog with them.
So...17 miles? in a slow way made for an enjoyable and pleasant morning.
(And I never found PAD)
edit:
oh and my ass hurts... meh
Sounds like a busy day!
My coach said my workout was not supposed to be fun. LOL. He just threatened to make my last few quality workouts harder. Sigh. I think I can, I think I can.
I just hope the asthma holds off for two more months. Once the chest closes until Winter, the paces will slow.
FFS, yo. lol
Hi dailies:
Basya - still sending thoughts and prayers your Dad's way
Rick - did the scale yell "hey, watch where you're stepping?"
DaveP - URD = UGH
Cy - very nice paces. Those results are really interesting, my AG is *tough* where you are! Here, it's mostly upper 20s guys turning in the top times.
B+ - volunteering, cool
HCK - sounds miserable there, stay warm
Free - sleeping on something the wrong way is annoying
Little Blue - mmm, donut
D - good run
onemile - the power of the taper
OOTB - cool, do the HM
Lily - very nice mileage! "Last marathon?"
Work - Erie is a BQ factory. Flatter than flat, and mid-September.
Jack - I'm still undecided about selling it. Take care of that tendonitis
Zel - good 12s
Bertha - sounds tough, the snow wasn't yellow I hope
Marjorie - yuck, cold rain.
Baboon - swimming, hooray
10.44 in the screw shoes on a mix of wet pavement and hardpack snow. It wasn't bad at all, and another runner was out up here! Also, a corgi doing some kind of nordic-trak maneuver in a snow bank. I laughed.
Oski - the good thing about Starbucks bathrooms is that they're in Starbucks. Did you get a coffee to replace all that blood?
Hip Redux
Passion tea!
I ran 8 today. It was nice to have a weekend without a long run.

That's like the second or third marathon cancelled down there in the past couple of years. Don't them people know we run in snow? Albeit slower but damn, it's not like they're cancelling a day of school. Canceling a marathon is huge. Was it that bad?
To recap my day: Left the house to go meet my running partner and 10 minutes in get a text that she's bailing on me. Go on the run anyway and get frustrated enough with the messy sidewalks that I run in the (busy) street. Almost get taken out by a city bus. LRS was having a blood drive, decide to give blood. Something goes horribly awry and mucho blood ends up all over the floor, chair, nurse, and so forth. Nurse tries to clean my arm up with little alcohol wet naps which does nothing, so I went around with bloody knuckles until I could get to a Starbucks bathroom to wash up proper. On the way home, the snow picks up to the point where it takes me 2xs as long. And then I got stuck at the foot of the hill to my house. Had to drive around the long way and in the process, almost rear end someone at the stop light because of the slick roads. So... fun times. lol

You're entitled to climb in bed and pull the covers over your head.
Snow isn't bad. But what we get is snow/ sleet on warm roads which melts and refreezes into a wonderful glaze.
Combine that with a total lack of know-how and equipment to handle the conditions and tada!
Keep in mind the saying in Texas: "Don't like the weather? Just wait a few hours."
We had 70F last week... and I expect it to be 70 in the next week or so. (with a few more cold spells)
5 easy for me. Not running the 15 planned if I was still doing the marathon was awesome.
We'll see. If not, I have my Elixirs still. If I cannot solve the sock/toe problem, I might use the Elixirs, just because they bother my toe less. But I like them so far and my feet feel fine now. The Hitogami 1s hurt my feet after a few miles.
Just about to retire my last pair of Elixirs! I heard Hoka has a prototype of a racing shoe, so maybe that's something you can check out when it hits the street.
