Back when we were n00bs, a break like that would've resulted in a run today at 5k pace without so much as pushing past medium effort, at least it seemed..

LOL, I remember back at the beginning when I only ran 3 days a week. I remember every run started with a big spring in my step, and the first mile was actually usually the fastest.

Also, my wife was kind of pissed at me for running when the AQI was still less than ideal. Not mad enough that she didn't make me crepes though.

The pace bunny is on my shoulder and straight up about to dust my sorry ass.

I am finally close enough to mine that I can look at that number without cringing. I should do the smart thing today and take a rest day because my back is really not happy. I did a stretching dvd earlier this week & it did not agree with me.

            Hello dear runners,

It is with great sadness and disbelief that the Marathon P’tit Train du Nord must announce the cancellation of its October 4, 2020 event.

Throughout the summer, the entire team worked diligently to establish protocols in accordance with the guidelines for sanitary measures and physical distancing required by Public Health.

A detailed protocol validated with the public health provided that at all times during the event, marathon administration could ensure a maximum of 250 people on the same site controlled by the Marathon, that is to say the starting sites in Val-David and Piedmont as well as the arrival site in Saint-Jérôme.

September 16, the public health informed marathon administration that the event could not be held because it did not comply with decree number 817-2020 because the 42-kilometer course (a public infrastructure) is an integral part of the event site.

In order to hold the event, Marathon administration would have to demonstrate its ability to ensure that at all times there were no more than 250 people on the 42 kilometer course for the duration of the Marathon.

Our disappointment is deep, and our thoughts go out to the community of runners who day after day put all their heart into their training in preparation for this event. Rest assured that all your efforts are not in vain, because all the work accomplished is not wasted and we will surely see each other again in 2021. We encourage you to keep moving!

All registrations will automatically be deferred, without charge, to the 2021 edition at the distance for which you registered. NO ACTION ON YOUR PART IS REQUIRED.

We thank you for the trust you have placed in us, and we are extremely grateful. We also thank you for your understanding.

We were ready to welcome you with more than 480 volunteers.

Wishing you the best and health!

Three weeks notice! That is awful. I continued to be in disbelief that they really thought they could pull it off, and always expected it to be cancelled. But when it got this close—it seemed they would find a way. A massive failure on the part of—IDK, someone.

Sorry Cyber. At least they didn't cancel a few days before?

Cy - Sorry to hear that. I know it was always a possibility, but this is really late to let you know.

Seriously.  Cancel the race when runners are hitting their tapers.  What a bunch of horseshit.

                    Sorry, cyber.

like NYCM a few years ago?

Cyber - you’ve got to find a way to do a virtual. Some course you can actually race.

Cyberic, that is awful. It seems like they had a reasonable plan and 250 people spread out for 26 miles doesn't seem excessive.

DavePNW, NYCM was a little different in that if I remember correctly, Sandy was a Monday-Wednesday event. Granted, they should have known when shit was underwater that maybe, just maybe, the race couldn't happen. I'm guessing in some cases, people who made it into a vacation already had flown in.

My memory is fuzzy on the details—seemed like they kept going back & forth on the decision, and finally cancelled at a point when many out of town people would have already made the trip. Although certainly different in that it was a sudden event requiring quick decisions based on a rapidly changing situation. Whereas nothing is really different about the COVID situation in Montreal vs. a month or two ago when they could have made the same decision.
