Did you say you are doing Space Coast?  You mentioned Space Coast and that is was going to be 95 degrees with a 92 dew point, but I don't recall you saying if you were racing.

How long before you jump into another training plan of some sort? Have you decided on a spring marathon yet? We can help with that!

Don't want to get too crazy yet, but I'm feeling OK. Next year's target is Eugene Marathon in late April. Also there's a good half in early March, which I'd sort of like to make a secondary goal - something more than the usual squeezed-into-marathon-cycle half. Or maybe the half should be the primary goal, and run the marathon off that. Not sure how much the McMillan plan helped me, but it sure as hell didn't hurt. So maybe re-use the same plan, or have them work up something new for me.

       sub-20 5k!!

No idea if I really have this in me, but of course I'd freaking love it. IDK what to expect this weekend, but then looking at another in 3 weeks. Which is not much time to do anything, but I guess it's some time to do something. Suggestions welcome. Probably a good thing to work on, because races start to dry up this time of year, even though weather around here doesn't get too bad, but you can generally still find 5k's. Of course I know nothing about 5k training. I have the Pfitz "5k to Half Marathon" book, so may consult that for some ideas.

It's funny, if I thought the BQ was going to give me the "OK, goal accomplished, I'm done with this shit now" attitude, it's maybe had the opposite effect. Finding I actually had more in me than I thought makes me want to see if I can do more.

LOL.  It is not that bad in December, that was last week's weather in Cocoa Beach.  The last 4 years have had 64-70F, 67-75F, 70-80F, 70-80F and 64+ dewpoints, so not too bad for November.  And yes, that is my goal race for the year but I met my goal in Chicago, so now I wonder if I should even try hard in this one.  I just need to finish the 5 year challenge to get a giant medal.

At this point in the year, and only two weeks removed from a marathon, I'm not sure that any training is required at all, but I'll leave that up to Ms. O.

If it were me, I would use the race as the "workout", and go out there as fresh as possible and race my ass off.

I've trained specifically for a half and it was all sorts of awesome. The workouts, though higher intensity, are much easier than the volume oriented MRT (as far as I'm concerned). But since you have the marathon already penciled in, you might want to just train in the traditional manner (using the half as a hard workout leading up to the marathon) and pick a goal half for the fall. Or not.

Oh I agree. Either you have it now or you don't and you aren't really going to be able to train for it in 3 weeks if you don't. Just get your legs back to normal.

But if you don't run it in these next 2 races, I can def give you some workouts. Lord knows I spent enough time focused on trying to do it

I know it's tough to have two goals, but there's 7 weeks between the races, so I figure gives me more leeway. And I had such a breakthrough on the marathon this time around, and god willing should have the BQ in hand, I may not need the spring goal to be too aggressive. So maybe freedom to put more into the half. Could have a fall half goal too. My idea for fall marathon is Seattle, which is pretty hilly so I'd be doing it more just to do it rather than with any serious time goal.

+1 here.  As pretty well a 5k-1/2 specialist back in the day, overall volume does not have to be as high (40s-50s) and you only need 2 hr. Lrs, or 14-16. You need more lactate stuff (tempos or cruise intervals), and you need more leg speed/V02 Max work which is pretty well 5K pace at least, with 10K on the longer intervals, IMO.

Dirty 6 for me tonight.  The other night it was dark the last couple miles and I ran into two raccoons staring at me in the middle of the trail.  Dogs, bears, and snakes I have strategies for.  Raccoons... no clue.  Say Hi?

Speaking of post race races, someone I've known for a while from RWOL is twisting my arm to do a local 50K in 5 weeks.  When it comes to races, you only need to look at my arm and it's twisted into submission.  Pre Chicago, I told DW that it would be my last for the year so I could fully heal.  Not sure how to approach a 50K discussion with her.  Maybe tell her I'm doing a 5K and repeat myself 10 times?  Or say I signed up for a small local 5K and then say I didn't see the zero?  Any advice?

Lol, no. Here in Chandler the sirens go off whenever, they don't even actually have a set time to test them. We've given up on actually depending on those stupid things. I was soaking in the tub, in epsom salt.

I was thinking about taking Dorian for a run later, but it's cloudy and 50 degrees and feels like it's actually 35-40 degrees. If DH gets home at a decent time, I'll see if I can take the dogs for a run on the trails.
