I’m free! We had a total pool of 45 prospective jurors to select 13 (12+1 alternate). They go through a selection process where the lawyers ask a bunch of questions, and excuse people if they don’t want them on the jury (or can’t be, for a variety of reasons). After all that was finally complete, there were only 18 left. I was one of the remaining 5 who did not end up on the jury. Close call! It’s a pretty interesting process.

I've never gotten as far as voir dire. I've only been called twice and both times all cases settled before they started with the questioning of the jurors. (Twice I got notices about 6 months after I had moved.)

      Are we there, yet?

It's been many years since I was called for jury selection.  The last couple times when I called the day before, I was told I didn't need to report.  I just checked who is eligible for jury duty and discovered that I may be excused upon request due to my age.

Some states have an age limit built in; the 75yo woman on our jury found out that WA does not!

Maryland has this. I think in my parent's county, once you serve on a jury, you have a set # of year before you can be called again. My mom knew when she got picked it would be one and done for thsi reason.

I'm just glad I don't live in Baltimore City. I've had co-workers get called every single year.

I’ve been a juror in one civil and two criminal cases. Both the criminal cases was a guilty verdict. The civil case was settled when we were in the middle of deliberation.

I served and was then summoned like a year later. Thankfully, you can be excused for 3 years after serving so it was straightforward to skip.

Several coworkers have been summoned for federal court here where you need to be available for a month! But you don't need to actually go there unless called. I feel like that's what I'll get next

In FL it's a year since you were last called. I don't know in Indiana, we've been lucky so far.

I was talking to a coworker who used to live in CA; he complained what they paid for the day didn’t even cover parking. I told him I’ve heard that before.

Fortunately we were dismissed right around noon today, so I didn’t have to pay for lunch again.

Haha its $15/day for jury duty and parking not in a homeless encampment probably starts around $20 (I paid $16 back in like 2015).

I've been called for jury duty only three times.  The first two times were after I'd just moved out of the county calling me, so I was not eligible.  The third time I was excused by the defense lawyers in a vehicular homicide case when they learned that my sister's best friend was run over by a careless driver.  Thus, my jury experience is limited to sitting on a zoom call in my home for a couple of days waiting to be interviewed.

In other news, I'm in the office and the local office president just walked by coughing, saying he was getting over a head cold.  And this in a company that keeps telling people not to come in sick.  Talk about your mixed messages.  Who are people going to believe they should follow?  The HR email?  Or the behavior of a local executive?  <sigh>
