Mostly I just feel like I have gotten everything I can from it

and I'm not really sure if I want to continue to train seriously

but who knows. I might change my mind.

You may not know how you'll feel till after the race.

I totally agree. Like you had a good race and surprised yourself and that is what motivates you to want to keep working at it.

I might just turn into a fun runner.

Knocking my mileage in half since taking up triathlon has been more fun that I expected.  If I run a four mile training run too hard, who cares, because it's only four miles and I'll be fine tomorrow.  My point is, moving away from Addie and into something new might light a new spark inside you.  Training the same way can definitely get stale.

+1 here.  As pretty well a 5k-1/2 specialist back in the day, overall volume does not have to be as high (40s-50s) and you only need 2 hr. Lrs, or 14-16. You need more lactate stuff (tempos or cruise intervals), and you need more leg speed/V02 Max work which is pretty well 5K pace at least, with 10K on the longer intervals, IMO.

Yep, you're pretty much race ready at all times. For me, it was the life.

I've been in a funk since the marathon, finally felt like my old self today. I was supposed to do this workout on Wednesday but I've been dealing with a stomach bug this week so moved it to today. 1.5 mile w.u, 4x1000m at 4:25-4:30 and 2 mile cooldown. It didn't suck as much as I expected.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! I need to decide which turkey run I want to do...

                    Hey guys, Happy Friday!

I may or may not have set my alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to pre-purchase the new iPhone X, so I may or may not be dragging complete ass today (as I couldn't fall back asleep til 5am). Oy. Crazy thing is, it wasn't that much more expensive than what I'm paying for my 6s. Weird, much.

Today's workout was 20 min up, 2x1.5 mi @ 8:30mm, 5min R, then 10 min down. Last week's 4x1mi @ 8:30 sucked balls, so I was a bit worried today's would, too. Nope! Nailed it. Feels good to actually feel some slight adaptations.

So you guys are the kings and queens of suggesting races. I need one for next Fall (FM). I live in MN and have run Twin Cities 3x. I'd like something fast & flat, and preferably not too far away from MN. I don't think I'll be ready for a BQ, but that's the direction I'm working towards. I also don't run super well in the heat, so even a later fall or early winter marathon would be okay.

And kind of on that note, would trying to get into Chicago be crazy? I don't have a guaranteed entry but was thinking of entering into the lottery.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Hudson coaching. And compared to other similar services, it's a bargain.

I guess we'll see how IMM goes and what I feel like doing after that.  I might just turn into a fun runner.

                      Running can be fun.

I'm not sure if training that hard (Addie hard) is the only way to be competitive for us hobby runners.  I'll know next Spring,. It will be1 full year of training however I feel like training. Nothing even close to a plan. Just the basic principles of volume, a long run every week (2 hours is good enough), some VO2Max stuff and some Threshold stuff. If I don't feel like it I just don't do it. That way running is not often a chore.

I'll go through a 10-12 weeks Daniels inspired home made plan in the Spring and run a half. My bet/guess is that I will probably have improved as much as if I had gone through Addie hell. Of course I'll never know one way or the other, but if the improvement in there, and good for one year of running, then I'll continue doing my thing. If not (no improvement), I might just turn into a fun runner too!

Garmin is sending me a replacement HRM-Run strap... think they'll throw in a 935 too if I ask nicely?

Maybe onemile can give you some suggestions in WI. The closest one to you I've run is Grand Rapids, which I'd highly recommend, but still a ways from MN.

Sorry I haven't been paying very good attention lately, but is your HRM-Run strap old? Is it the one you bought like a year ago? I'm asking because mine is shot. It's the one I got with the 620 about... less than two years ago, actually.

9 with 3 x 2 miles at HM pace. Supposed to be faster according to the plan, but no way can I run 6 miles faster than any race all year.

Picture from Baltimore were finally posted. Clearly I should have stepped aside to let the dude take his selfie  I'm in the sunglasses. You can probably get a pretty good idea from this picture just how crowded this race is.
