Waltons ThreadLord

    Rest day today, but figured while I was online I'd start today's thread.  I'm in the office and the view is rather dramatic.  Low, dark clouds are starting to clear out after an overnight rain, revealing a higher, lighter level of clouds.  There are hints of the sun trying to peek/burn through, but right now the sky's palate is definitely in the darker shades.  A painter (or a poet) could do this more justice than I can, so you'll have to trust me that it's pleasant to look at.  (I'd take a photo, but between the tinting of the building's glass and the phone camera's attempts to filter/adjust the photo, pictures never do the scene justice.)

    5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22);
    10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)

    Upcoming races: Running is Back 10k, 5/12; Greta's Run 5k, 5/19

      I guess since I’m not on the jury I can talk about the case, since I don’t really know much anyway. It was domestic violence; the defendant was charged with assault against his girlfriend—with a machete. When the judge read that to us in the courtroom, there was an audible gasp from the jury pool. Naturally the lawyers asked the jurors if they had ever been involved in a DV situation, or had friends or family involved, and a ton of people raised their hands. They’d ask those jurors whether they could remain fair and unbiased, and people would say “I’d like to think so, but…” A bunch of people got dismissed that way.

          Hey look, more today.   I didn't feel like running in the rain AGAIN this morning, so I will get my run done after work.

              7 miles with 7 x 3 min at 10k pace. I don't really like running faster than 10k pace so this went ok. Super steamy out there though. Apparently, there's a hurricane off the coast. And they're predicting a heatwave, heavy rains, flooding and fire weather over the next few days

              Leaving work a little early to watch HCK's O's beat my Padres.

                Yikes! Crazy that this goes to trial. And who has a machete in their house?

                The trial I served was for DUI and same thing, asking the potential jurors about having or knowing people with alcohol issues etc...which was umm, everyone.

                  Crazy indeed. Though IDK why it wouldn't go to trial. And those of you who've been through it know that the questions are asked in front of the whole group. And there were a few people, when asked about their DV experience, ended up breaking down in tears. That was a little uncomfortable. Although more uncomfortable would be sitting through the trial - I believe the alleged victim was scheduled to testify.

                    Anyway - got out at 5:30 today for a big workout. 13 miles total with 6 x 1 mile tempo w/3 min recoveries + 3x200m. I like these to be around LT pace, <6:50. First one was 6:53, the others ranged from 6:42-6:45. I was pretty happy with that. It was hard.

                      A machete is something you'd hear in PR or Miami but Seattle? Never thought that.

                      I have 4 after work. In the office, finally feeling normal and doing, guess, TRIAL PREP!

                      Dave, a lot of people lie too to get out of it.

                        Yesterday was my 31 year wedding anniversary. I wouldn't have a 32nd anniversary next year if I didn't take a rest day yesterday.

                        Tonight, I will try to do around 3 miles. Last night with mild conditions. We are back under the heat dome of death tomorrow. Today is supposed to be 93 for a high and tomorrow it is going to be 107. Friday is forecasted at 109.
