Return To Racing
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Sleep in, Jill
4 minute run/walks with DW today. That's all she is allowed to do. Probably will total 3 miles.
Have a great day !!!
Penguin Power!
Haha I slept in until 5:54 today and did a 4 mile run around 7 am.
Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)
Barking Mad To Run
Not a great run after work yesterday, but not a bad one either. Just kind of 'average" as my adductor and piriformis on my left side are still 'pulling' a bit. Talk about a literal pain-in-the-ass, lol. Got a good piriformis stretch to whack this puppy out? tongue emoticon Still, managed to enjoy myself at a nice easy pace, getting 3.2 miles in at a slow 37:05 minutes. I have one more race to do - Fandango 2.6M this Saturday evening - and then I am thinking about just taking off from running through May completely to let things heal up properly. Gotta keep moving though so will do a lot of walking, x-training, etc., and volunteer for a few races too - maybe as a Course Marshal so I can still get in a few photo reports

Good morning Penguins!
Jerry, thanks for starting us off.
Jill, glad you got a run done.
I went to a boot camp this morning (2 week free trial...) It was depressing; I can't do a pullup to save my life.
Former Bad Ass
Afternoon! I have 7 miles tonight.

Hey Pens.
Scotty, my piriformos is giving me more trouble than my shin at the moment. Hopefully I'll pick up a few tips in PT.
Thinking about doing a walk/run for my marathon. I don't want to go that route, but am pretty sure there's no other way I'd finish this spring and I can't defer my registration. Between now and then, the focus will be on healing instead of training.
Jerry - I hope your walk/run was a good one.
Jill - good job on the dawn run.
Allison - The other day, a neighbor said as I jogged past, "You must be in really good shape." I answered, "I try." But what I was thinking was, not really. I can run and walk, but otherwise I'm not that fit. I have no arm strength and my core isn't that great either. I have no flexibility. I've gained weight. Maybe it's time for me to stop worrying about races and start thinking more about overall fitness.
Scott - I'm sorry the adductor/butt is still so painful. Gail should know some good yoga moves to teach you that would stretch out both. Just be careful. I learned with hamstrings that too much stretching of a sore muscle can actually make it worse instead of better.
Z - Start training with the run/walk now, so you can figure out a sustainable pace. I read about someone who did it for the first time in a race. He ended up running the run segments too fast so instead of being easier on the body it was harder. If you are willing to just plan to finish and to enjoy the day, run/walk would probably work well for you. It might be easier on your stomach as well, which would be a plus.
D - I hope you had a cool seven miles.
AFM: It was a beautiful 70 degree day, so we went to the park and Jim walked Ben while I ran through the park and the neighborhood beyond it. I was sore from yesterday's faster run, so the first mile was hard, but after that I got into the groove and the running was easy. Six miles in 59:57.
Allison - I'm also thinking of signing up for a class at the Park District since I go there twice a week. They no longer have boot camp, but there is a High Intensity Training (HIT) class that sounds "interesting". Better attend the demo first.
My apologies for missing the significance of today in the thread title. Happy 420 Day !!!
thanks to DD for bringing this to my attention.
Ginny, I ran outside! Miracle! Nice weather.
Jerry, Happy 420!
Every day is 4/20 in Oregon.
Ginny- Maybe it's just that you ARE in great shape, but it's hard to keep feeling awesome about it since it's not really anything new that you weren't able to do, say, last year.
