Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

Morning, Jill!  MAN, it's cold out there this morning!  My quartet gig is tonight, which means I have to get all dressed up in palazzo pants, flowy tank top, black shrug, and a ton of makeup.  And then I have to put on my hat, scarf, gloves ... should be interesting!

Ginny -- I think DH and I have given up until our part of the world thaws a little.  DH still walks Dusty, but I am too much a cold weather wuss!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Wow.  SERIOUSLY quiet day in the igloo today!!  Everybody hibernating?  Or out buying bread and milk?

          Barking Mad To Run

Tuesday I did a nice easy route in my neighborhood that included 4 hills, 2 fairly mild hills and two large hills that went up for quite a ways.  After my run on Monday, followed by a weight training session, wow, my legs for my first mile on Tuesday, were really feeling that weight training session, as I've been slacking off in that area for over a month.   After that, felt a lot looser and better and did all my hills strongly.  Ended up with 3.5 miles done.

Today will be a nice, easy run after work somewhere on FLAT surfaces.

I can't really complain about my winter either - yet.  So far so good.  70 degrees yesterday and sunny, humidity only 40-something percent; today more of the same, sweeet.  Of course, for my 5K on Saturday...naturally Mother Nature is bringing in a 'cold front"....temp at start time is supposed to be something like 39 degrees.....a flipping almost 40 degree drop in temp from the middle of the week, sheesh.

Covered 5 miles... ran a little over 3 of em.  Sad  Just wasn't feelin it today.  I finally called a pain specialist so in about two months I'll see them... ugh, that's a long time!

Ginny, peak week exhaustion is totally normal.  You sound like your'e doing great.

HopesMom-- oh sounds awesome!   Good luck with the show!

Scotty-- enjoy the warmth while you have it.

Cherie - where are you feeling pain?  I'm surprised that your wait is so long --- two months is a long time to be in pain.

Re: Popcorn story. No. All I will say is that it involved waking up to someone puking a bunch of it. Ugh.

Got 4 miles in last night. For the first time in a week or more there wasn't any new snow to deal with. A little warming trend is happening. Supposed to be up to 30F by Saturday. Yay!

I bought our milk and bread yesterday, so bring on the snow!

                        5 miles done this afternoon.

Cherie - sorry to hear you're in such pain.  Is it the same thing that sidelined you last year?

HopesMom - enjoy your gig tonight.  Stay warm.

Jill - I hope your TM miles went well.

Scott - that is going to be a cold race for SA.  I always think it's funny how bundled up everyone is when it's in the 50s.  Can't wait to see what happens when it's in the 30s. I hope you enjoyed today's flat run.

D - enjoy your rest day.  They don't seem to happen often for you.

MJ - Enjoy the warmup, such as it is.  How much snow do you have on the ground now?

Margo - good job on the 5 miles.

I ran 5 tempo miles downtown today.  It was cold (25) and I wanted to get warm so I pushed the pace.  It was a good run. Then I did the pre-snow grocery shopping.  I really didn't want to wait until the day before the storm.
