5 super slow miles at 33 degrees, before heading down to Eugene for a few days to see DS.

Taking a ‘mindfulness’ sabbatical from my right leg and running… Been off the scale obsessed with it.

In the meanwhile, it seems that I have created a monsteršŸ˜® When I started baking the maple oatmeal cookies I was home alone, but now wife, mother-in-law, and younger son are here…. Now baking them every day.

Raisin maple oatmeal on the left, chocolate chip, maple oatmeal on the right.  Stopped at the icing as it made a bit too sweet.

I ran my first ParkRun in a month and the first in 4 months that I really ran hard (the other recent ones were during marathon recovery).  With temps finally in my comfort zone (34º today), I set a new personal best for the course with a 25:11 which was a 12-second improvement.  It showed that I'm rusty at short distances as my pacing was rather ragged.  I think sub-25 on that course is possible for me on a good day.

        5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22);
        10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)

        Upcoming races: Running is Back 10k, 5/12; Greta's Run 5k, 5/19

Morning! I'm still trembling from the rain and 41F at the race. I took it easy but the leg flared so when I saw my friend walking her kid to the finish, I joined them for around a mile, then ran ahead, then walked and they caught up and we finished together. It was a fun race, lots of donut stations, etc. Last year this race will happen at this location (or ever) so I wanted to make it.

          PT exercises later.

I got 7 miles done the track this morning, Bubba!!!  It finally felt more like a real run instead of a slow plod.

Slept awful. Or rather, not at all so I skipped running because I felt unsafe. I didn't think I'd be mindful enough of traffic. Insomnia sucks.

Anyway, I feel more awake now but it's drizzly and I don't feel like the TM so I think I will make today a lazy day and try to brave the crowds tomorrow for last minute food shopping and gift cards.

11 miles. So many people out. Now I need to go join the crowds and pick up the cupcakes I ordered and stop at the grocery store.

7 miles. Skipped meeting RP at 630am and ran at 9 instead. Beautiful weather here.

DH hit the grocery store before 8am which was definitely the right move.

Rest day today. Running has been really good the last two weeks. My IT band was a little wonky until around 2 weeks ago. When it finally cleared up completely, I’ve sped up about 45 seconds per mile with no increase in effort. Both legs feel strong. I am able to do a fast finish again. I am doing the final quarter miles of my runs at a 8-9 minute pace. Two months ago my hamstrings were too tight to do a fast finish.

My massage therapist is amazing. She loosened up my hamstrings and has given me good exercises too keep them loose. She is also a runner so I feel like she knows the runner’s body better. On my first trip to her, my body was a mess. She has seen me three times now and my body feels good.

Hope everyone has a great, enjoyable, and safe holiday season!

I've been regularly running 4 days a week, with the weekend outings usually being races, most of them 5Ks.

I've completed 70 races so far this year and have 1 more tomorrow.  That should do it for me, unless I decide to do a local New  Year's Eve 5K coming up.  That one starts at 7 pm; I am not really good at running in the dark - even with a headlamp, lol - so still debating on whether I will go for this one or not.   I have been feeling really good lately, especially as, after 2 years of dealkng with cancer side-effects, they are finally starting to lessen now. Still there at times, but mucho better than it was right after my treatments.

This morning I did a run/walk in Schertz, Texas, starting and finishind at the Schertz YMCA.  Weather was a bit overcast, with some spitting rain at times, but nothing serious.  This Texas humidity though!  I started at 10 a.m, and the temp was 64 degrees with humidity in the 90 percentile range, gaaack!

Hope everyone is running well or happily doing whatever your chosen exercise is, walking, biking, whatever.  Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season and a grand New Year.  May all your dreams come true!

Some people put lights on the Festivus pole, but it is supposed to be left plain. No use in commercializing Festivus like Christmas.

Signed up for a HM in Feb. Was able to save $20 by selecting No medal and No shirt. Yay! I wish more races did this. It was still $70 but that's almost half the price of the one I did two weeks ago
