Hospital story??? One day, about 30 years ago, I had run six and then split a cord of wood… the next morning when I woke up I had insane pain in my groin. Went an saw my hmo doc at 9 AM And he said he believes it’s a hernia and set me up to see a surgeon at 11 AM, surgeon said it’s a hernia and had me checked into the hospital For surgery about 3:30-4 in the afternoon.
anesthesiologist gives me a shot and then comes back a little while later and asked me if my doctor knew I had a fever ? I remember the anesthesiologist asking the question, but then I went out, cold.
when I came to they told me that I had an enlarged lymph gland which they removed.
30 years later, I’m still a confused and have doubts about what what happened.
Addendum: right groin, and there are LOTS of staple in the groin… I know as I had my right hip X-rayed in 2000 and the ortho showed me and joked about the staples. Hmm… I wonder it this is related or cause of my goofy groin nerve problems
5K Specialist
I have only spent one night in the hospital. I did a 15k as a teenager. I ran the Red Lobster Egg Nogger. Before the race I got a foam lobster hat which I wore in the race. I fell on my face at some point of the race and got a concussion. I don’t remember anything beyond passing the first mile marker at 7x and thinking I needed to slow down. My parents saw me finish the race, and I passed out right after I finished. My first memory after the 1 mile marker is being in the back of an ambulance with a women and man staring at me. My next memory is the hospital bed.
I ran pretty fast with a concussion. I finished in around 70 minutes. When I was a teen I would race with reckless abandonment. I basically did a 15k at my 5k pace. I was afraid though to race again after that race. I am guessing that I ran 7-8 miles with a concussion and was too focused on the race to stop.

Are we there, yet?
Naturally at least one of my hospital stays involved running. I had a severe UTI that put me in the hospital flat on my back for 5 days. Among the tests done was an EKG that showed some abnormalities. So after 5 days flat on my back recovering from the UTI, the cardiologist on the staff decided I needed to run a treadmill stress test. (Imagine how you would feel after being sick for 5 days, at times running a fever of 103F, and on strict bed rest.) I knew something was weird after a couple of minutes on the treadmill, because he kept asking if I could go a little longer. He obviously had all the information he needed for an evaluation and diagnosis, but I agreed. After 12 minutes of this I finally asked if I could stop because I was getting tired and didn't think I should push myself that hard after being sick.
