Tuesday Penguins are back in business!! (Read 14 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

AKA back to work.  DH and I had a lovely weekend filled with video gaming, walking Dusty, cooking yummy food, and digging up a dead shrub and replacing it with a Japanese maple.  Hopefully the deer won't eat it!  I felt bad digging up the former shrub ... stupid sentimentality, I guess, but I was sad that it died and we were just digging it up to probably burn in our firepit.  I felt better when I confessed to DH and he said he felt kinda bad too.  So I talked to the new Japanese maple, and told it our other trees were friendly, and now it had room to stretch and grow ...

Ok, ok, I know it's doofy.  But there you go!!

HopesMom - I understand that.  Our yard is not friendly for trees and bushes, since it's only got about 4 inches of topsoil over slate.  When the previous owners put in trees, they made the holes too small for the trees to grow very big.  The rock just cages in the roots.  I did the same thing when I first moved in.  One by one, the trees are dying, which is sad to watch.  Our neighbor used a backhoe to dig his holes, then filled in the holes with soil he purchased wholesale, so he has some healthy trees.  Digging holes with a pick is hard work.

        Penguin Power!

Hi Pens!  I've stopped running almost completely =(  I'm going to try to get out there today for something short.  Even one mile is better than no miles.  I've had a headache on and off for the past 9 days so that's contributed to my laziness, but really it isn't so terrible that I can't find some time to run.

HsM - which video games do you play?

Ginny - you can always rent the big machines for a day to do the hard work :-)  How has your running been going?

          Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

DH plays a number of different things, but I like the Lego games.  They're fun, and I prefer games where when something gets killed, it just falls apart into little blocks and disappears.  We're working on the Marvel Super Heroes game now.

            From the Internet.

              Afternoon pens!

Today was day 1 of marathon training: 5 easy miles and a sports massage appointment. I have a feeling most of the other days between now and the race won't feel this nice and refreshing :P

Saw a story today on "esports" where you play games on your phone/tablet with live sports (not fantasy).  I guess it is something like, what is this batter going to do this at bat, is the replay going to overturn the ump's call, etc.  Not betting, but there are prizes.  Play against anyone, or teams...Interesting.  Maybe this will help me stay awake for nine innings Smile

Afternoon!  I am also back to work after the long weekend and grrr, wish it was still Saturday afternoon.  Anywho, Pilates for me.

                    Hello Penguins!

Hopesmom, Japanese Maples are beautiful.  I hope you enjoy your new tree!

My spontaneous HM went OK on Sunday.  Dh and I had a great trip - we loved loved loved both Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.  So many breweries and coffee shops, so little time!    Anyway I didn't PR but I gave it a good effort.  The race was advertised as flat with a couple of hills.  But the hills were LONG!  GPS says the elevation change was 3700 ft.  My time was 2:17:11 which I'm happy with.  I'm planning a PR on Saturday.
