Finally Friday Penguins (Read 23 times)

GinnyinPA

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Long week for me, so I'm glad it's Friday.  Not enough sleep really doesn't help.  OTOH, it's going to get cold this weekend, though we aren't expecting snow like some folks.

I'll do 6 or so later today.  Have to get my annual mammogram first.

      Brilliant

        Good morning Penguins!

Ginny, your weather sounds lovely to me right now.  At least we are on a cooling trend here for the next few days, with highs in the lower 80s.  I hope your mammogram goes well.  PSA:  OVER 40 LADIES, get your mammograms!  (are there any others here except Damaris who's 40?)  I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the tender age of 43.    (obviously I survived and am healthy now except for my toe...!)

I'm supposed to do 8 this morning.  My toe still hurts, but it doesn't really hurt much more when I'm running.  So I don't know if continued running is keeping it from healing or ??  This is the worst post-race injury I've ever had, so I guess I'm lucky!

        From the Internet.

Brill which toe? If it's the big toe I'd maybe rest for a day or two - as I learned from breaking the darn thing, the big toe takes like 60% of the force of toeing off, so if it's hurting it's good to rest it. You might subconsciously start compensating for it and end up tweaking something on the other side of your body. Any of the others, I'd probably be stubborn and keep running on it.

4+ easy miles for me this morning. Just under 50 degrees, not humid at all, shorts and long sleeves weather since I was out before the sun was all the way up - my favorite running conditions!

          Zelanie

I turned 40 in March, and got my mammogram in March.  Thanks for the PSA. Smile

I wouldn't think that running would slow the toe down from healing, but it does sound like it sucks!  Maybe just slather Vaseline on it or something?

            Hi, Ginny!

            hog4life

I had a FE dinner last night and met a couple ppl that I've known online for years. It's always nice to finally meet people from the webs. I'll be going to the expo later and trying to figure out where to park.

Brill,  I had forgotten that you beat breast cancer, keep fighting!! And running too

              Zelanie

Mitch, that sounds like an awesome experience!  Good luck this weekend!

Morning all, 5 done this morning.

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  I didn't manage to get  a walk in yesterday, except for walking around campus to and fro, but since I didn't time it and don't know how far it was, I didn't count it.  It's all good.  Today I might get rained on, we'll see.  Chorus last night was fun, but I'm looking forward to chillin' with DH, Dusty, and the three cats tonight!  Maggie has her first vet visit on Monday.

Ginny -- have a good 6 and a clean mammogram!!

Brilliant -- I'm 43, I get a mammogram every two years because my previous ones have been clean and I have no family history.  I'll be due again next year.  I guess the rule of thumb (or toe?) is that if it changes your gait, don't run on it.  Otherwise you're good to go.  Have a good 8!!

Lauren -- Woo-hoo for your 4+ perfect run!!

                    Zelanie -- Good morning!!

Hog -- Woo-hoo for your FE, and best of luck!!

                    PAD -- woo-hoo for your 5 done!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                    Jill.

                    Penguin Power!

                      Hi Pens!

I think I'm doing 4-5 miles super easy with my friend today in a couple of hours.  Now back to my regularly scheduled pre-in-law cleaning =P

                      Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

                      Buelligan

No waddling today... but that's a good thing.   I had 4 straight days of runs with no back pain.  Seven miles yesterday!

I think I should stay a penguin for awhile.  I like it.

Morning.  I mean afternoon, sigh.  Been in court all morning.  I have 6 but breathing is not good so who knows.

                          Damaris

                          From the Internet.

Whee so not only am I the fastest that I've ever been right now, I'm also the strongest! Squatted 155 lbs for 3 sets of 5 reps with full range of motion and reasonably OK form. Couple of them weren't pretty, but I got the weight up and it felt slightly less terrifyingly hard than I thought it would. My all-time max was a few reps at 165 two years ago, will be cool to see if I can blow past that in a month or two!

(are there any others here except Damaris who's 40?)

I turned 50 this year, so I get to schedule my first colonoscopy. Lucky me!?

i spent most of my day in class to learn a new quilting technique. Trotted through a slow 3 miles when I got home-- I guess the ride and weights yesterday tired my legs.

                              Singer who runs a smidge

We seem to be mostly Masters Penguins!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
