Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

LOVELY after-work run/walk for me yesterday.  First some rain came in as I was driving to the park where I was going to run.  The rain stopped when I got to the park, but we must have been in some kind of 'vortex'....because the temp then dropped from 97 degrees to 77 degrees...and stayed like that for my whole run/walk.  SWEEEET!  20 degree drop in temp, low humidity, low dew-point.  The 70s stuck around for most of the night too.   I ended up with 4 miles on off-road trails.  At 4:30 PM there were very few people in the park - I met only 1 cyclist on my entire route - so I kinda felt like I was "KING OF THE PARK", lol, enjoying my own private domain.

Today is my "Thriday."    My university has a football game tonite - we are playing the Arizona Wildcats and the game will be nationally televised.  Gail and I have season tickets, so off to the game we go.  I will be getting off work early today to do a little bit of tail-gating and then enjoy the came.  This is our first home game - after we beat U. of Houston on the road last week, 27 - 7, they sure were surprised! - and we are trying to have an "Orange Out" and pack the stadium with at least 40,000 fans all in orange shirts (our team colors are orange/blue/white).  Don't know if we can beat Arizona, they are a darn good team, and this is only our 4th year of having a football team, so they have quite a lot of experience over us - but regardless of what happens, should be a fun night.  The game will probably run late, so my boss kindly gave me tomorrow off, so I could enjoy the tail-gating, etc., and then 'recover' tomorrow.

Thymoleptic:  Psychologically Energizing....which will be the game tonite.  Go UTSA RoadRunners!

              Team TJ

I did not want to get up at 4:30 this morning to run.  So, I did it anyway.  3.3  miles done before work.

Running for TJ because he can't.

Scotty - sounds like an ideal run yesterday.  Have fun at the game tonight, whatever happens.

PAD - Happy Birthday!  Good job on the morning run.  Why up so early?

Jerry - have fun at the gym.

Damaris - hope court goes well today so you have lots of energy for your run tonight.

Baconista - chilly?  sounds good right now.  Hope you had a good run/walk.  Are you coming back from injury?

Robert - I would have a very hard time getting up that early to run.  Good job.

                      Hi Slymoon!

HopesMom - Go for it.  Walk and yoga - it's all good.

AFM:  hot and humid here, so I may run on the TM later.

                      From the Internet.

Hi pens! Ran 6.5 miles with 3 at tempo. The weather was great but the tempo felt hard and I never really hit my target pace. Blech. At least I got it done.

Thriday for me too. On leave for a week to be baby sitter for 2 little ones while MIL is going on vacation to some part of China. Should be fun!

5 easy done in the morning.

Well, the walk part of today's agenda is done.  Seems like I either have to be out when it's stupid-hot or stupid-early.  Maybe I'll go back to stupid-early for a while!

                            Barking Mad To Run

Happy gym workout, Jerry.  Hope the gym remodeling is very accommodating for you!

Good luck with the miles tonite, Damaris.  Maybe you will get lucky and your temp will drop to 77 also while you're out there.   Yeah...that'll happen out there for you all right...about as much chance as your cats  doing this, right?  ....

Way to beat the Sandman, Robert!

Maybe you can do Yoga while walking around the office, HsM, get 'em both in at once.

Hope your TM miles go well, Ginny, if you decide to do them.

Way to go on the tempo run, Lauren, sorry  you did not hit your targets, but at least you got out there and got it done.

Gee, Bin, your MIL is ditching you for China?  How rude....   So you got the double-baby-jogger all ready to go, right, so you can now get both upper body and leg work!

Hey, PAD...how old are you now in dog years?

My tech just broke my water purification system.    I suspect I'll have to purchase a new one, for about $4k.
