Friday Penguins are Going to Brilliant's House for Dinner (Read 24 times)

Zelanie

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

We know that's why she got a nice new kitchen, to invite us all over!

I ran last night and it didn't suck!  Kept it to what felt easy, and it was slow, but not THAT slow.  4.5 to meet up with running club, then 1.5 home from there.  I am thinking that I should try to get back to my regular schedule, but keep the distances slow.  So maybe 3 tonight.

      Brilliant

I was just in the kitchen fondling the countertop.    It's my favorite thing...except for the insta-hot, and the quiet dishwasher, and the quiet disposal with its cute little counter-top button...I'm in love. Smile  I can't believe it's all really done after only 3 weeks.  And yes, my hubby says I have to start cooking again.  So anytime you all are in town, let me know!

        Zel, you rock at running!

I'm about to head out for 5 easy miles.  Then all the graduation festivities: a brunch graduation party for dd's best friend, then dd's graduation ceremony from the honors program, then big graduation ceremony.  (Jack, it's Biola University)

        Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  I decided to take a day off from PT because I wanted a break, so I had a nice leisurely morning.  It should be lovely out today, so hopefully I can ditch work for a bit and go for a walk.  And happy three-day-weekend to everyone!!

Zel -- glad it didn't suck!!

Brilliant -- bwah hah hah!!!  Sounds like your kitchen is gorgeous, pics??  Enjoy your 5 easy!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

            Woohoo!  Party at Brilliant's!

I have 6 miles.  On the TM because the fires are off the hook and the smoke is bad.

            Return To Racing

Good morning Zel, Bri, HsM and Docket.

Glad the run didn't suck, Zel.

              Enjoy the PT vacation, HsM.

We will have to put an LA race on the 2016 schedule, Bri.  Enjoy the kitchen!!!

Have a good TM run, Docket.  Hope the smoke goes away soon so you can run in the ridiculous heat.

Short run for us and we'll be ready for Sunday.  Weather is looking bad, so does anyone have wet running tips?  As you know, we are fair weather runners. Sad

                Hi Pens.

Brill: Kitchens are cool! After we re-did ours, it quickly became the "hang-out" room anytime we had people over. Now all you need is one of those Bose wireless Bluetooth speakers so you can rock some music in there. ENJOY!

Zel: Way to get back at it (I knew you would)> Wink

HsM: Enjoy the walk. I've been doing a lot of that myself.

                D: What is on fire?

Jerry: I have never raced in the rain but I have heard that a trash can liner works nicely. Just cut some holes for your head and arms and you're good to go. If it stops raining or your don't like it just take it off and put it in a bin. Good luck with that.

As for me, nothing but core work and walks with our old dog. I can feel it in my knee when I walk so I'm guessing running is still not a good idea, but I'm tempted to go for a few miles on Sunday, but it depends if I have a headache or not. DD2 earned two little scholarships last night at her senior awards banquet. The wife and I are proud of that kid.

                See ya.

Jack, the garbage bags will also look great in the race pictures.

Jerry, I love my waterproof Brooks rain shell and waterproof cap with brim. The shell is venting so heat doesn't build up and it still keeps the rain out.

                      Jill.

                      Penguin Power!

                        Afternoon all.

                        Brill - yay for cooking!

Zel - nice that you are so not sure after a marathon - also you need to update your signature!

HsM - how long does PT take you?

DR - enjoy your 6 on the TM

Jerry - good luck this weekend!

Jack - congrats to your daughter :-)

I did a super easy/slow 1.7 mile loop of the local park.  That's all I had in me today.  Tomorrow I'll try to get out there before it heats up and do something a bit more substantial before we leave for memorial day weekend parties. DH went to the doctor this morning who said he appears to be perfectly healthy and can't see a reason why he would faint during a race.  He referred him to both a cardiologist and neurologist to rule out anything.  I think that he probably doesn't have an underlying condition and just pushed himself way too hard, but I guess we'll see what the specialists say.  At least we are making use of our health insurance this year? ;-)  He still really wants to run the JPMorgan Corporate Challenge on June 3rd but I won't be in town then and I don't think racing is a good idea for the time being.  I told him that if he insists on racing it I won't go down to help my sister prep for her wedding (which is on the 6th) until afterwards and he could deal with her wrath.  My sister is someone to be feared =P

                        Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

Hi everyone, I missed checking in yesterday. I did 5 miles last night after work with Bella and did 2 x 1 mile repeats. First mile was 7:42, and the second was 7:06. I wasn't really trying to hit the second one that fast, but now it has me thinking. In college, I run a 6:14 mile with zero training, and now I think that I might can challenge that time. My fastest mile that I have logged is 6:50 during a 5k about 2.5 years ago. I will not sacrifice my HM or FM training in the fall, because those are goal races, but if I were to do a 1 mile race in the middle of that training, what type workouts would help? I was thinking 200 intervals as fast as I can run, and maybe do 6-12 of them during an interval run of 7-10 miles. Any thoughts?

D, how do the Everglades burn with all that water around? Seems odd....

Zel, glad you are back going.

                              Brill, I love the kitchen.

Hope, my wife is need PT for her back, but keeps putting it off.

This is why I dropped mine.  It just feels like a hassle later.  Fortunately, Pilates helps with my back issues so I don't need more PT but pretty much how it went for me.
