Bubba Penguins Getting Out and Doing It Tuesday (Read 19 times)

Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

June 1st is National Bubba Day.  "Bubba" is kind of a Southern derivation of "brother."  If you live in Texas, "Bubba" is the worker bee...."Hoss" is the boss-man.

So get out there and do something today, Bubba Penguin!    For me, probably some hill work somewhere after work.  Nice sunny day, at my run time of 4 pm it will be 88 degrees and .....warm!

...everyone was celebrating with Rocky Road ice cream  because June 2 is also Rocky Road Ice Cream Day!  The ice cream came after the chicken dinner since June 2 is also Chicken Rotisserie Day.

      From the Internet.

        Morning.

I didn't even know it was possible to be this sad and still be alive. Trying to work through my feelings so I can be somewhat productive today - already planning to work from home as much as possible this week to spend time with my baby. Vet will call to check in midday today, hopefully he'll have the cytology results from the fluid that was in her chest and I'll at least have an idea of how much time we might have left - whether it's just a day or two or longer. I am so, so grateful that she's still alive and OK right now, but having no idea how long this could drag on for is killing me a little. She loves the pill pockets they gave me, so at least it's easy to get the Lasix into her.

Planning to run today, maybe even twice. Running helped yesterday, I think it will continue to be a big part of helping me deal.

Morning!  Pilates and maybe a run with hubby.  I slept 2 hours, yay me.

Lauren, I am sorry to hear about the kitty.  I'll be thinking of both of you today.

          Damaris

Lauren - do whatever you can to get through your grief. So sorry you are so sad -- that just means you love her so much.

DR - 2 hours?? Hope you have a nap scheduled in your day.

Scotty - enjoy the sunny, warm day. You and all of Texas deserve it.

Started this morning with light calisthenics. Hopefully, I'm over my binge baking (and eating - Ginny). I thought, while I'm down, I'll start focusing on more stretching. I've gotten so tight over the years where I used to be so very limber. Felt good this morning, just doing some gentle floor exercises and stretching.

I should track down my 1 year old grandson, Rex, today. As if "Rex" isn't a cool enough name, we call him "Bubba". He needs a kiss from his Mimi on National Bubba day. Who knew? Oh yea...Scotty did.

            Have a great Tuesday.

              Thanks D and Kathleen

Kid is at school, Scrambles is having a nap in her favorite window, I'm going to head out to get my (possibly first) run in. I broke out my DSLR for the first time in months to get some nice shots of her, she's a little quieter and more reserved than usual but she doesn't look sick yet and I want to make sure I have something nice enough to frame.

We had a cat who died young of an aggressive cancer when I was in college, I was really sad but I don't remember feeling so completely overwhelmed with grief when we first found out about his cancer and later when he presumably died (indoor cat who snuck out and ran away in the middle of the night - he was never found, we didn't even get closure). I think it's because this time, my little feral friend never really showed her true personality to anyone but me, and it kills me that I'll be the only one to really remember how wonderful she is. Taking pictures and videos and sharing them along with stories about her I think will help me work through that. I'm going to ask my sister, who is a very talented artist, to draw up a cartoon version of Scrambles that I'll get as a tattoo eventually.

                Penguin hugs for Lauren.

I was so tired after work yesterday that I didn't run at all, and I think I went to bed at like 8.  It was still light out!    That leaves my miles for today, and I have to back a cake.  We'll see.  But I needed the rest.

Sorry about you kitty Lauren. We lost our dog of 16 years a few years ago. Don't want to go through that again so we never got another one.

                  Brilliant

                    Good morning Penguins.

{Lauren} so sorry you are going through this.  I know it's really hard right now, but one day you will look back at the pics and video you are making and smile.

Kathleen, nice that you got some stretching in.  And no baking. Smile

Scotty, with all the facial hair, I can't tell which overall-ed guy in the pic is you. Wink

Zel, you must have had quite a day!

Damaris, wait, you mean a TOTAL of 2 hours sleep?!

AFM - still no running.  I don't remember the last update I posted - I think I was just supposed to go to a PT appt that my dr referred me to (my tailbone was hurting).  But then a couple of days later, when I was feeling COMPLETELY better and wanted to go for a run, the dr called to tell me based on the x-ray results, she was sending me to an orthopedic specialist, and I was to do NOTHING (running, yoga, nada) until I see him on Thursday.  So I've done nothing more strenuous than walk my doggy in the last 9 days. Sad

                    Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  Did my PT with DH again this morning, although I am not yet getting better at standing on one foot while throwing and catching a tennis ball.  Dusty stays in his crate while we're doing all this exercising, since neither of us wants to be laying on the floor doing clamshells with a 110 lb pooch looming over us.  On Friday when we let him out, he immediately went over to the bed where we'd left the tennis ball, snatched it, and took off downstairs!!  He's all jealous that we're playing with tennis balls and not letting him have them.  Now we put away the tennis ball before we let him out, and he keeps searching the bed for it.

Scotty -- enjoy your hot hills today!!

Lauren -- So sorry to hear about your poor kitty!!  DH and I were both completely flattened by Hope's cancer as well, even more so when it recurred after her surgery.  It's been four years now, and I still get choked up talking about the day we let her go.

Docket -- woo-hoo for your two hours!!  ;-)  Hope the Pilates and run go well!!

Kathleen -- Hope the stretches give you limber muscles and peace of mind!!

Zelanie -- Enjoy the miles and the cake!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                        PAD -- good morning!!

Brilliant -- wow, sounds like ominous news from the doc!!  Hope the orthopedist has less doom going on.

                          PAD -- good morning!!

                          I seriously think she's over-reacting.

                          GinnyinPA

Lauren - I know how hard it is to say goodbye.  I hope you have more time with your cat before she goes.

Scotty - enjoy your hot hilly run.

D - I hope you get an easy run in later and that you get your  time zones figured out tonight.

Kathleen - good luck with the stretching/yoga.  I need more of that too, but am worried about further damaging the hamstring, so have cut back lately. Do you have hand weights you can do as well?

Z - whose birthday?  You make the prettiest cakes.  Enjoy your run today.  When does your school year end?

PAD - when my mother's dogs died, she swore she'd never get another one, because it hurt too much.  She didn't.  Instead she got adopted by a semi-feral cat.  When you love animals, the house feels so empty without them.

Brilliant - if you do have a sfx, you'll probably have to stop walking the dog too.  I hope you don't.  Hopefully the orthopedist will have better news for you, but you may need an MRI to be sure.

HopesMom - I was using one of Ben's hard rubber balls for massage.  He never ever plays with it, but he hated the fact that I was using it without him and would take it away and hide it.  Good job on keeping up the PT.

It's cool (high of 65 today) and rainy today. We had planned to go for a long hike to take advantage of the cool down, but I think I'll end up running on the TM this afternoon instead.

You slept 2 hours at work, Damaris?

Happy Bubba Day to your grandson, Kathleen.

Oh, it's not hot yet, HopesMom......88 is Spring around here.  As we get closer to July and the temp starts to creep up into the high 90s, low 100s...now that will be hot!

Good luck with your miles, Zelanie..and be careful backing up that cake....watch out for black icing....

None in the pic is me, Brilliant...I'm the darn dog stuck behind that one guy's fat butt.....so you can't see me...terrible smell too...
