To waddle or not to waddle Monday Penguins (Read 18 times)

Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

Hi sapf!  I woke up early and came down for some water.  I should be getting back to bed now. Smile

I might waddle 8 later, or I might take a SRD.

Hope you're starting to recover from yesterday's LR!

      Jill.

      Penguin Power!

I think to Boston or not to Boston will likely never be a dilemma that I face

Congrats to Eric for killing it yesterday :-)

Today will be a super short run day with lots and lots of stretching.  Maybe I'll take the K5s for a loop around the local park.  I'm feeling mostly okay after the 18.6 miles yesterday.  I'm more tired than usual but I think that's because the shot blocks I used during the run yesterday had caffeine and I'm not used to it, so not only did I not nap after my LR, I also didn't fall asleep until something like 1am.  The next shot blocks I buy will either be caffeine free or half caff.

Morning!  I have Pilates tonight and taking my day off since my race sucked so much and I was sick yesterday.  More details later. Off to my asthma doctor.

            Good morning Penguins!

            Zel, have a good 8.

Jill, I'm glad you're not feeling too bad.  And you're learning about race day nutrition - one of the super-important aspects of the Long Run!

Damaris, I hope your 40yo self feels better soon.

I personally don't waddle.  I run at a pace my husband calls "bobbing along" which seems like the opposite of waddling.  (anyway, I still lap HIM at anything longer than 3 miles!)

Rest day for me.  I need it; I'm very tired!  I think I piled too much running, including a quality run, into last week after my hard HM last weekend.  So, just trying to stay cool today - it should only get up to 90 or so.  Yesterday it got to 104 (it was 90 when I finished my run at about 9:30 AM!!!) but the house never got above low 80s, thank God.  We have a single room air conditioner and combined that with a fan to blow through the upstairs and keep it from becoming a furnace.  The downstairs always stays cooler, although it was uncomfortably warm late in the day.  My son needed to study and bemoaned the fact that the nice cool library is closed on Sundays.  But all of us were too stupefied by the heat to think of camping out at a coffee shop for the afternoon.  I will do that this afternoon if it gets too hot.  So that is my long sad story of living with broken AC. Smile

Brilliant - I've spent the day in the mall, when electrical outages meant no heat or no AC.  Just find a comfortable corner where it's cool.

sapf - good job on the 18.5.   Caffeine in shot blocks doesn't affect me, AFAIK.

Damaris - sorry you got so sick yesterday.  Something you ate or a virus?

              Z - enjoy your 8 later.

AFM:  I had a really hard 12 miles yesterday that has me wondering why I'm even trying to do long runs when they are always so bad.  It was a beautiful 75 degree day, so heat wasn't the reason. We're driving down to MD today and may be camping again for a few days.  Ben is still limping, so there won't be a lot of hiking, unfortunately.  I hope to get a run or two in.

Hubby got sick going in and I guess I joined him a bit.  Not sure if it was either.  I might have eaten meat by accident or mixed with something or it might have been a virus.

Sorry about your tough LRs.  Why have they been bad?  Breathing? feeling tired?

No waddling for me today. RD

                    From the Internet.

Today's smart idea: 3 mile warmup, 1 mile time trial (road, not track), 3 mile cooldown. Two words for that: MOTHERFUCKING OUCH. 6:58.19 for the mile - lost some fitness compared to where I was in June, but still managed my first-ever sub-7 mile so I suppose that's OK Smile

                      Barking Mad To Run

Busy weekend...did 3 races, a 5K Saturday morning, an 8K Saturday evening, and a 5K Sunday morning  All my reports - and the tons of photos I do for all my reports, lol - are on the front page somewhere.   Today is a rest day from running!

Weekend football kinda sucked.  Oklahoma State whomped my university's team 69-14, sheesh. Then the Damn Dallas Cowboys won..Longhorns lost by ONE STUPID POINT because the idiot kicker missed the extra point.....it's a good thing I don't gamble, lol.

Ginny, I can relate.  LRs take a lot out of me.  75 is on the warm-ish side if that's any consolation - you'd have felt better with a balmy 60.

                            Lauren, you are smokin' fast!

Scotty, crazy race weekend.  I enjoyed the reports.

                            PAD, have a good RD.

It has clouded up outside so the house is staying really cool so far!

Jill, I have a friend who is going to try to get into Brooklyn Half so I was thinking of doing it too.  But I was just on FB and saw a horrifying video (google "pizza rat") and I may never go to NYC again!

If you do register let me know!  I'll run it with (or likely behind) you.  This year the race filled during the first 7 hours of registration.  Don't worry about those silly pizza rats
