THERE IS ZERO DOUBT in my mind MITCH WILL RUN ANOTHER FM (and nail it).

    "one and done". YEAH RIGHT

Girl, that was mile 7, 7 I tell ya.  Hey wait, I get you one from 23.

    hog4life

How's this? Mile 23 or 24. I tried to do a little jog for the photographer, then I started laughing and asked if he could tell I was faking it.

One more, then I need to get to bed. This is the finish line, duh, can you tell that I'm in pain?

        From the Internet.

Morning guys! 2.1 miles in 8F done. That's actual temp of 8, fortunately there was no wind because otherwise it would have been some nonsense negative-number "feels like" temperature. Weights later, maybe another half mile on the treadmill, doing my 3 inside tomorrow thankyouverymuch. More snow coming over the ice we already have, running outside will not be fun/safe.

Yay Mitch!  I am so glad that you are thinking about running another one!  This fall has been rough for you, what with spending 72 hours a week fighting giant robots rappelling off buildings at all times of the day and night, plus of course the PF didn't help.

Any chance of your work schedule easing up in 2014?

Had my second doctor appointment. As predicted he didn't see any obvious big fractures in the x-ray (stress fractures don't usually show up) so he wants me to get an MRI to see if it can be determined if it is indeed a stress fracture or inflamed peroneal tendon at its attachment site. He gave me this sling thing to wear in my boot to give me more arch support in it. And said I still can't do any weight bearing exercise including the spin bike until he sees the MRI. Fair enough. He did say swimming was ok, and I've been working on finding a place to swim.

                Hello all.

Great pictures Mitch. Enjoy your rest days. You have earned them.

Gustav - Nice job on the mileage. Keep warm.

Awood - I am struggling a little with weight too. Good luck getting it back into equilibrium.

Jerry - Enjoy the lunch and short run.

Damaris - I hope Trixie gets better soon. Have a good run tonight.

Scott - Sounds like the weather here. A nice, warm late-autumn day. Have a nice run. Maybe you can run in front of the train to get in some speed work.

Lauren - Nice run in the cold weather.

                Z - Have a nice day.

Kristin - Hopefully it isn't a fracture. Good luck getting some answers.

I did a short run last night. It felt good to get a run in, but my calf was super tight. The calf is pretty unpredictable. Some days it feels great and other days it is tight like last night. I might try another short run tonight.

                  Hi Pens...

Hog: Nice pictures. There is no doubt that you can run a better time. The biggest problem I had with the marathon was not the race, it was the training. It is such a time commitment and if you keep getting a different schedule at work, it would be tough to train the way you would want. I would also like to do one more, I just don't know when. In the meantime, some all other race distances will do just fine.

I will go out and get in a few miles today. DD has swim practice so that will be a good time to do an EASY run. I am taking my time getting back to it, no rush. Two or three weeks off (with just a few runs here and there) is doing me good.

                  Hi everyone.

Have a good day. Three more days and then two weeks of vacation. YEAH BABY!!

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Hi Penguins!!  I'm only working today and tomorrow before a nice long break until Jan 2, so I've got a lot of things to wrap up.  Not least, I want to clean off my desk so it's not ridiculous when I walk in on Jan 2!

hog -- I'm glad you feel good about your marathon, and it's no bad thing to be tempted to try again!!  And wow, that's a great picture!!

Gustav -- sounds like an awesome day at home!!

awood -- hope you get things figured out, and that your holidays are awesome!!

Bin -- I'm not sure we have a signature song, although the chorus does a fun spiritual called Ride the Chariot that's a crowd-pleaser, and my quartet does a nice rendition of Let There Be Peace.  The chorus has a performance on Thursday for the Military Officer's Association, and we'll do Armed Forces Medley.  Each service member stands when they hear their branch's song, and it's always incredible!

Jerryb -- have a good short run!!

Docket -- hope Trixie continues to improve!!

Scotty, it sounds like a perfect day for the trails near the zoo!!

                    traci -- good morning!!

Lauren -- eek on your weather!!

kristin -- Yeah, MRI is usually the definitive diagnosis.  Hoping for the best for you!!

Dan -- glad you were able to get out there!!

Jack -- have a good easy run!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                    Barking Mad To Run

Nice photos Mitch! Gee,you don't look like your avatar photo at all...

Congrats, Lauren, on even getting out there at that temp!

Hope you can find a place to swim, Kristin.  Maybe you'll have to join your local Y so you have access to an indoor pool.  I hope your MRI appointment comes quickly!

Maybe you can run in front of the train to get in some speed work.  Yer funny, Dan.   You know, when I do go to the zoo park to run, I see the train once in a while and the engineer always gives me a wave, lol.  Glad you got to run for a bit, but sorry the calf is still misbehaving.

The biggest problem I had with the marathon was not the race, it was the training.  Same for me, Jack.  Cuz, unlike you, I am NOT speedy, and so the long runs for my training would take me FOREVER.  Hell, that's marathon finish time for some people but not for me.  That is one reason I never had the desire to do another one.  While I did do it with 3 friends - AND we were in Hawaii, so even better - and enjoyed myself along the course during the race - the darn training for it for me just had me out there waaay too long.  Well, it's a moot point now anyway, as my back can't handle long distances anymore, so my days of halfs (I really did like doing half marathon distance, I did six of those, and I do miss doing those) and marathons are over.  Well, enjoy your easy miles today, and good luck to your daughter at her swim.

You have a short week, HsM.  I have to work Thursday too before I'm done.  Good luck with the desk cleaning!  Don't drop anything on your foot, head, shoulder, etc.  Hmmm, don't you have an assistant?  Have him clean the desk while you supervise do quality management oversight.

                      GinnyinPA

Mitch - I look forward to reading your race report.  I think if you can train without the incredibly long work weeks, you will do well.  It's hard to put the effort into training when you start out tired.  I love the seven mile picture - you were having fun at that point.  Even your 23 mile one doesn't look like you were in trouble.

Gustav - have you tried eating something on your two hour runs?  I know that when I get hypothermic while backpacking, the only thing that warms me up is food.  I've never tried eating while moving to stay warm, but it might be worth a try.  And besides, if you intend to eat during your races, practice now is a good idea.

Awood - good luck getting your weight under control.  I've gained some weight the last couple of weeks, which is really frustrating since I'm now running again, and the scale should be going the other way!   From long distance hiking, I know that when you stop doing heavy physical activity, 1) your appetite doesn't decrease right away, so you have to be really careful; especially since 2) your metabolism does slow down very quickly.  A lot of AT thruhikers finish the trail underweight, but almost immediately start gaining weight as soon as they stop walking all day every day.

Bin - sorry the poo monster caught you this morning.  Have you figured out which foods cause problems for you or is it random?

Jerry - enjoy your run this evening.

Damaris - I'm glad Trixie is starting to do a little better.  Waiting on surgery is probably a very wise move.  Enjoy your nine this evening.

Scotty - I envy you your nice weather and multitude of choices on where to run.  I am much more limited, unless I want to drive a long way.

Lauren - good job getting outside in such cold temperatures.  Have fun with the weights later.

Krstin - did you ever get a response from the Jewish Community Center about using their pool?  I hope you find one you can access easily.  Did the doctor say how long you'll have to wear the boot, or is that dependent on the results of the MRI?

Dan - are your calf problems related to the knee problem?  Or just a result of not running in several days?  How did the twisted knee feel?

Jack - enjoy your easy run this afternoon.  Another person with a long Christmas break - nice.  The only time I got that was when I worked at the Univ. of San Francisco.  I really enjoyed that.  Most of my jobs, the holidays were deadly quiet, so hardly worth the effort to come in, but I didn't have a choice if I wanted to get paid.

Hopesmom - good luck getting your desk cleared for your vacation.  Enjoy the time off.  I know you've been really busy lately with all the concerts.  Maybe you'll be able to restart your walking program during the break.

AFM:  We woke to more snow, just an inch or so, but we ended up shoveling anyway.  It was still powder though, so I didn't get much of a workout.  No running today, but I may get on the bike later, if my late lunch settles a bit.

Ginny - I think the calf problem is part of the knee problem. I think running on the ice and slush didn't help either though. I think it is a combination of factors. The calf is weak because of the blood clot. I am not going to do longer runs until the clot is gone. The calf seems to be doing a little worse since they reduced the amount of blood thinning medicine I get. I was on 30 mg per day and now I am on 20 mg per day.

Update: I got the MRI but apparently they take days to "develop" would have thought with technology today these things would be faster. Everything depends on the results of the MRI, but he said whatever is wrong rest won't hurt it so I have to keep resting and boot wearing. I asked if he could project how long I would have to wear it and he said til he says I don't have to anymore. THANKS, lol. As for the pool.... it looks like I will be able to join a Jewish Community Center (JCC) that has a pool and late evening open swim hours and isn't terribly expensive. I can't get anyone to call me back there though.....but it is near where I do homecare in the evenings and I am planning on stopping by tomorrow after homecare. Hopefully they don't have a requirement of actually being Jewish.

                            Return To Racing

Despite a warmup, the streets were slushy and icy and when we got to dry spots, the slush on our shoes kept it slippery.  It was wet and hard to see the potholes.  Quit after 2 miles but we still had a 10:00 pace.

Skipped the office Christmas lunch so I wouldn't be gorging myself on a buffet.  After seeing earlier comments about weight, I weighed myself and saw that I hit a new post diet high (142), so the Christmas lunch seemed like a good place to start.
