Half marathon today.  By the time we got to the start at 9:00 (!) it was already 66º and sunny with no wind.  By the time I finished, it was 75º in the shade and there was no shade on the roads (probably 80º - 85º on the pavement).  I don't do well in the heat and today was no exception.   I was on pace well into mile 8 when the wheels came off.  Looking back at my watch data, I found my heart rate was already up into what I expect for a 10k by mile 4.  So, I crashed and burned and wound up walk/running the rest of the way to finish in 2:04:15. I've been drinking fluids for 5 hours now and haven't had to pee yet, despite draining my 16oz bottle during the race and getting water at every station along the way.  2:04:15, more than 10 minutes slower than the PR I posted back in the spring.

On the bright side:  there was a 2-mile race after the half started and my son took second place overall, which was good for a free pizza at a local place, so we stopped on the way home, and he ate 4 slices of "victory pizza" during the car ride home. Apparently, he was neck and neck with the another runner near the end, but got out kicked and finished 3 seconds out of first place - wish I could have seen that.

      Nice work!

For me: 10.4 miles, 64.8 for the week.
And 2500 miles for the year!

Nice!  You'll blow right past 3,000 with a few hundred miles to spare.

Fred, nice race in lousy conditions. So you didn't get the fog either? I saw pictures of a race in DE this morning & it was gray, overcast & everything looked wet. Congrats to DS!

It was very foggy driving down to the race, but it started burning off just before we got there.
