Bhubaneswar cutoff (Read 31 times)

Speed Surplus

So, according to a possibly dubious LRC thread, the cutoff this year is 3:23. I have a friend who ran -2:29. Ouch.

Maybe he'll be doing a Tunnel marathon with me next year...

Anyone else close to the cutoff?

I can confirm the 3:23 cutoff. I missed out with my -2:43.

Absolute BS. So glad I've stopped chasing that nonsense.

I have played this game once. It was not fun, then fun, then extremely not fun again. Grr.

                RB40 - Sorry, bud.

Last year was 2:09, for comparison.

The pace for my functional BQ just dropped to 6:55/mi... I've got some serious work to do.

I know several people who missed the cutoff - including a couple people who posted 15+ minute PR's to get past the BQ standard.

That's insane. Is there some massive influx this year? I would've expected around two minutes based on recent data and trends I've seen from people I know.

Well that's startling. I suppose it means that the race is a popular as ever. Or did they lower the cap again?

It's particularly shocking since Boston 2017 (the largest feeder race) was hot. Just imagine if it had been cool-- there probably would have been many more qualifiers.

It looks like they took about the same as last year.  High demand it seems.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the standards adjusted a bit in a couple of years.

I think I saw that they accepted 24,000 time qualifiers this year. The field is usually around 10,000 bigger than that, right? What do we think about the ratio of time qualifiers to total participants?

Also, yeah, I am really shocked by how big that is. And that';s a great point about the 2017 race yielding slower times. It would have been even worse...

RB - that's quite a bummer, sorry to hear that.

I thought it always ended up being 2:XX, but going from 2:09 to 3:23 seems a bit excessive. Maybe 5:03 is not a gimme for 2019.

Thanks all - I was really surprisingly upset about it yesterday, but I'm fine again today. Probably just as well to put it behind me since race day is only a couple of days away.

Good thing I'm not (yet, I hope) in BQ territory. If had had a BQ-3:00, I would have been convinced I'd get in, so then not making it would have come as quite a shock.

Sorry that you didn't make it, rb40.
