Mike - I’m pretty sure after cold/cool May and June our bodies are not ready for these conditions. Even if they were, it’s still too hot and humid 😆. You went for it regardless, that’s good! I’m positive your 5k times will start to improve in the fall, you are doing intervals, long runs, etc., now it’s just a matter of time and right weather/course to make it official!
Congratulations on placing 2nd in your AG and getting 69.9% age graded time!

I guess this is a non-race report. The local running club hold a 4-mile race on the 4th July each year and the one in 2015 was my target race when I started running. I've just looked back at my race report from the 2019 race where it was 82F at the 7am start, dew point at 78 and heat index of 93 and my splits were 8:25, 8:52, 9:44 and 8:40 for a finish time of 35:41.

This morning was slightly cooler than 2019, with 79F feeling like 88F (dew point 76) and I've just been looking through the results. There were 150 finishers this year compared with 308 in 2019. If I had run this year I would likely have been 4/10 in the M60-69 AG (any finish between 35:55 and 39:33 would give that) as opposed to 7/16 actual in 2019.

I set out to run a 4 miler on the TM, put it to 6.4mph and was going along nicely when all of a sudden the TM speeded up to its maximum of 8mph accompanied by warning sounds. I frantically sprinted while I tried to figure out what was wrong and with no obvious solution, I hit the emergency stop. I'd already had the display change from displaying the speed to displaying heart rate (it was showing around 95-100, but I've no idea where it was getting the info from) but that was probably user error in that I think I caught one of the buttons as I reached for a towel. Not sure why the TM sped up - best guess is moisture dripping on the '+' button. Wiped everything down, tested the controls and they seem fine. Decided not to resume, so I log 2.58 miles in 24:09. (I was on pace for about a 37:30 for 4M).

Nice races, Fred & Mike. I'm kind of jealous.

      Great workouts, Vibe & Damaris.

      Started running at age 60.

Quick - bit of a scary moment with the TM.  I'm glad you were able to keep up long enough to hit the stop.

I was debating whether to run today, on my usual rest day, since I won't be in the office.  I looked outside and it seems rather hazy so I checked the AQI and it was well into the red at 172, so that decided me and I took my rest day today.  (When I went out to get the paper, I could smell it too.)

Quick - glad you got that TM under control.  I've seen videos of some really bad falls on those.

Fred - probably a good call to stick with the RD.  The AQI isn't too bad down here, but the humidity is still horrible.

Damaris - how did the 5 go yesterday?

Vitaly - I see you are a local legend of that pond loop!  Nice run, picking up the pace as you went.

I ran 5.6 this morning at a reasonable pace.  I was soaking wet when I got done and found that I'd lost 3 lbs during the run.

Morning! Bad AQ here again today, sigh. RD for me.

            Quick, scary!

Fred, ugh, having the same here.

              Morning!

Fred - yes, the AQ was not great this morning...

Quick - ugh on speeding TM, glad you were able to stop it in time. Nice run!

              Damaris- enjoy your RD!

Mike - thank you, I like that pond loop Smile Good job on your run!

Long story short - my DW ended up being admitted to a hospital last night with GI-related issues. I got back home at 4am and got 2 hours of sleep before going for a run which was not pretty. Hopefully they'll release her later today, we shall see.

Vitaly - Any news on DW?  How are your kids handling it?  How are you? (Having a spouse in the hospital is stressful.)

I ran 6 with Mike this morning.  The first official day of marathon training.  122 days to go.

Thank you very much for all the well wishes!

My DW is doing much better, they performed an endoscopy and haven't find anything major. At this point they believe she should tweak her diet and hopefully that should do it. She'll probably be released in the next couple of hours, so hopefully she's back home soon!

Fred - the kids are older now, so it was not too stressful. I'm swamped at work (as usual early in the month), and that was not helping any; I had to drop off/pick up my daughter from her summer camp and to/from her math class, so it was hectic... But I got good 7-hr sleep last night and that helped greatly Smile

Nice run with Mike, first step on the road to NY marathon was taken!

I ran 5M easy at 8:40 pace, AQ was much better today.

I have 6 later. Maybe a Barre class.

Yesterday at my usual run times there were lots of thunderstorms and two brief power outages. As power outages cause a rapid stop of the TM, I sacrificed my streak for safety.

This evening 3.3 miles on a progression workout. Started at 6.0mph and increased 0.1 every 5 minutes, so last minute or so was at 6.6mph.

                            Started running at age 60.

Vitaly - It would be great if something as basic as a dietary change can help DW.  Nice easy run yesterday.

Damaris - Did you opt for the Barre, or stick with the run?

Quick - Seems like it's time to invest in a UPS for your treadmill.   Smart to pick safety over streak.

6½ of easy/hills running for me today on another warm, humid morning.  They say the DP may get below 70º by Tuesday....

My all-time longest streak was 100 days in the summer of 2020 (mainly running circles in the yard). That was brought to an abrupt end by Hurricane Laura. I was concerned that if the recently ended streak had continued it would have hit 100 days right at the peak of hurricane season (early September) and we could do without another hurricane hitting here.

We have a standby generator that covers much of the house in the event of a power failure, but it takes 3-5 seconds before we are on generator power. That gap (and the short outages we have been experiencing) is long enough to cause the set top box, the modem/router, etc. to reboot, which in the case of the set top box takes several minutes. I've just invested in a battery backup to cover those and I'm pleased to say that passed the test Wednesday evening.

                                Started running at age 60.
