Vitaly - Nice workout this morning.  Just out of curiosity, roughly what pace do you run on your recovery jogs?  (And as a runner, how dare you call it jogging?    )  Have a good trip.

Damaris - Sorry the Achilles issue came back.  I hope it goes away just as quickly.

Mike - I give you credit for sticking with the gym and hope you find the right balance.  I've yet to find a strength routine I can stick with alongside my running.

Quick - Nice run on the TM.

SRD for me today.  After that, a bunch of 6-mile days coming up with the exception of 8 on Sunday.

Fred - Just before everything shut down in 2020, I joined a Max Challenge gym in my area.  I believe you are in NJ, there are quite a few there, but this is the only remaining one in PA.  I was 40 lbs heavier than I am today and I really needed to do something.  They got me on the right track with sensible eating and 5 day a week workouts.  M-W-F are cardio/cross training.  Tues is upper body and Thurs is lower body.  I don't know if it's just my personality or me being married 33 years, but I needed to find a place where I show up and they tell me what to do!  Smile

And I agree with your calling out of Vitaly's blasphemous use of "jogging"!  Back in the day I would "playfully" correct people if they said "oh, you're a jogger" Smile

Oh boy, I'm in trouble Fred and Mike . I'd call it "an active recovery", but "jog" is shorter and easier to type! Fred - the jog was done at 9:00-9:05 pace, which is 20-25 seconds slower than what I usually maintain for my easy runs.

Damaris - hope your Achilles improves soon!

Quick - nice short run with accelerations

Fred - enjoy your RD, 6M runs in this weather are tough, but you will be fine.

Mike- early workout is never a problem for me, in fact I'd rather do it in the morning vs. evening. I agree, it's not easy to find a right balance between running and gym workouts, just listen to your body. Eventually you'll probably have to decrease gym volume (say by 20-30%); yep, jumps are not very good for us, I only do those for rope exercise.

          Nice runs!

Vitaly - Looks like you do the same thing I do with speed work:  active recoveries about 50% slower than the hard runs and slower than easy.  For you that's 6:00/9:00.  For me it's more like 8:00/12:00 (though I'm often closer to 11:00 except at the end of a workout or in warm, humid weather).  That's in line with what I've seen in some training guides.

As to "jog," I understand that it's the easier term to us.  Don't worry, we won't excommunicate you for it (sticking with the metaphor Mike started with the use of "blasphemous").  This is a safe space, after all.

After Tuesday's track workout I was feeling a bit cocky about how well it went.  Well, my legs gave me an attitude correction this morning as my 6½ mile hills run had some rather slow paces as a result of sore calves and thighs.  At least I know I'm getting work done.

Vitaly - nice run this morning.  Are you in vacation mode yet?

The past 2 months I've been called back into the office on Thursday's after 3 years of working from home.  That way I can drive 1:20 to north Jersey, only to sit in a cubical and have people Teams me.  My throat has been a little sore the past couple of days, so I stuck to HR's strict guidelines and didn't go into the office today.  So I took advantage and ran an easy 5.6 this morning.  Humidity is still a killer Sad

Mike - I have to start packing eventually Smile No, not in vacation mode yet, quite busy at work, oh well. I hear you on going back to the office, we made a transition to "hybrid" model some 8-9 months ago, and I'm now at the office twice a week; it's nice to see the group now and then, but we proved we could work just fine WFH 100% of the time, so there's that. Nice run this morning!

I ran 4.5M easy this morning, temps are back into 70s even at 6am.

After today's run I crossed the 1,000 mile mark for the year!

                      Also did the pull-ups.

I hated it when they brought us back 3 days a week as of May last year. We still hate it after 1+ years. Unless I have court, it's stupid to drive to just sit in my office to do the same thing I can do here at home like today.

Vitaly - I get what you mean about hill runs, but some of my paces were slow even for hill runs.  It is nice to see people in the office in person, but I'm happy with doing it just once/week (they're trying to persuade us to go more often, but happily for me their pre-pandemic drive to get more people in the office classified me as having too long a commute to be required to go in more).  Nice run this morning and good job getting to 1,000 miles.  I'm currently at 999.3.

Damaris - I feel your pain about 3xWeek.  Jobs that don't require a lot of collaboration should be treated differently than jobs that do.  I understand having people in the office is a big benefit to young or inexperienced staff, but those are the people I work with.  Enjoy the 7.

Mike - 1:20 drive each way?  Ugh.  Whereabouts in north Jersey do you go?  I used to do a long drive 2xWeek when I was a lot younger.  Now my commute is 1:20 each way but by foot and train - no driving.  Nice run this morning.  Hope the sore throat isn't indicative of anything serious.

Fred - I basically drive to Met Life Stadium when I go in.  By Redd's Diner, if you know that area.  I live in Bucks County, PA, but have worked in North Jersey or NYC since 2006.  I used to commute 2 hours each way when I worked at Riverside & 119 St.  That was a drive to the Hamilton train station, train to Penn Station, then the subway up to 116th St.  A short walk after that.  Commutes like that were another reason for my inactivity and weight gain!  I'm a computer programmer, so between work and commuting and that's 12 hours sitting on my behind.  We recently hired a fresh out of college kid and another senior programmer, so I was asked to come in one day per week "for a little while, not forever" for some mentoring.

It looks like I only have 453 miles in this year.  I better get a move on!

I'd just gone from working mainly at our main office 38 miles away (40 minute commute, unless there was a freight train crossing) to a local branch office 4 miles (5 minutes) from home when the pandemic started. I haven't been back since!

I would really like to be able to go back to the office, but even if the threat of CoVid was no longer around I fear that my wife would not be able to cope at home on her own all day, so work from home (and have a treadmill) is best solution for now.

                              Started running at age 60.

Quick - I'm glad you're able to avail yourself of the best solution available at the moment.

6 miles for Mike and me early this morning under cloud cover that kept the heat down.  About 30 minutes after I finished there was a thunderstorm with torrential rain - I'm glad I missed that.  Then an hour-long call listening to the results of my son's evaluation last month - that was exhausting.
