Morning!  I ended up with no gym workout yesterday, and 5 miles on the paved trail.  As I finished up, it was still light out, a big change from a month ago.  While the temps don't show it, spring is getting closer!   Today is a rest day, with yoga set for lunch.

qotd:  this might seem a weird one, but can you sit on the floor with your legs crossed? are there any other things that you cannot do that you attribute to being a runner?   I have typical runner hips and I probably haven't been able to sit cross legged, comfortably,  since middle school, even with regular yoga.  Pretty flexible otherwise.

Got in 4 late last night. Plan is 5+ tonight some time (in the rain/snow)

QOTD: I had to get out of my chair and try, but yes. I can sit crossed leg. I attribute that to years and years of swimming.

Morning all!  Woke up to a balmy -29 this morning  - needless to say it's the treadmill this evening (again)

qotd: I'm terribly unflexible, have always been that way- running hasn't changed it much, something I probably should work on, but never seem to

Should have worn snowshoes yesterday. Went out to the trails and wore microspikes as the snowshoers had packed things down nicely near the parking area but as I went along I guess the snowshoers must have petered out as eventually I was breaking trail in deep snow. 2 hours of that and I was tired. I get the idea that a lot of these adventure seekers don't like to venture too far from the car. Of course I had 3 sets of snowshoes sitting in the car.  Still have my skis in there too, won't be using them anymore this season.

See a hand specialist this morning so will see how long I'll be off work and if that gives me a little time to maybe head down to eastern Tennessee for some recreation. I wouldn't mind a little time off of course but I'll probably be replaced at work though so I'm torn. Of course one armed camping might not be easy either.

Warden-- Sounds like our kind of weather. Nasty.

QOTD--I can but it's never been real comfortable. Not sure if it has anything to do with flexibility or more the way I'm constructed.

          flashlight and sidewalk

            Morning all!

DId 8 last night on some really ugly sidewalks.  It seems like a lot of people just gave up on shoveling.  Lots of jumping over snow banks, lots of setting fresh tracks where the sidewalk should be (I feel like if I show that people are trying to use the sidewalk it will motivate some to get to shoveling), lots of running down really narrow shovelled sections.  It was also really icy last night and I went down twice, both times hitting the same knee and ripping my tights (and knee) in the process.

Plan for today is for 7-8 more easy miles.

QOTD: I can, but it's not pretty.

Good morning.  Ran 8 on some log roads. Trails are too dangerous right now with all the ice we got yesterday.  Not the footing, but the falling icicles dropping from the trees.  I would have needed a hard hat.  Our power was off for 14 hours yesterday, so I did my part to help save the refrigerables and drank 2 Nippletop Milk Stout beers (from Lake Placid, NY).  Pretty tasty.

QOTD:  Yes I can, but it bothers my back more than my hips so i don't do it much.

              “Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!

Finally some rain here in the Bay Area! Winter weather like it is supposed to be here: 48F and pouring rain. I may get 5 miles in this pm, but there is a lot of work that needs to finish before I fly to Japan tomorrow.

QOTD: I am very very unflexible. I can sit cross-legged, but it is not pretty. I trained martial arts 6 days per week for two years, and stretched a lot but could never get my roundhouse kicks higher than my waist.

One of my goals this year is to do barbell squats, but I can't even do one without a bar - I topple over backwards before I reach parallel. So the last several months I've worked consciously to increase my hip, hamstring, and ankle mobility. I stand at my desk, stretch, and massage with rollers and lacrosse balls. I think things are improving, but it is a very slow process.

4 on the mill this morning, I'm still on a cold weather strike and besides we got another 6 inch yesterday and I didn't feel like ploding through more fresh snow.

QOTD: I can but I can only hold it long enough to resemble a yoga stretch more than sitting.

                  Endless trails

                    Morning, folks.

URD for me today. I woke up in agony, back pain, so painful I felt a little

nausous. WTF!, I'm only 46, way too young and healthy to start having back

issues. I had an adjustment at chiro this morning so hopefully that will help

by tonight but for now just stittin at my desk is painful.

QOTD: I can sit cross-legged. I have a hard time wasting a Saturday morning

on anything other than a run, or sitting still for too long a period (like watching

a movie), I attribute that to being a runner. or maybe I'm just restless.

                    LB2

I think I will do another 5 tonight, fast.

                      QOTD: Yes, I can.

                      Faster Than Your Couch!

Heading out for a run in the sun. What a change in weather, and it's highly appreciated.

Bad news is, the next storm is already on its way - probably to arrive just in time for my weekend's FA run.

QOTD: Yes, comfortably, I never thought about it. Probably years of breaststroke swimming (the default style in Austria and Germany), plus a few years of ballet as an adult. We did the "froggy" (and I sometimes still do it now): lying on your stomach with your knees pulled up and turned out, so that they lie flat on the floor with your feet together near your crotch (doesn't look pretty, but is a very good stretching position for dancers). Running hasn't changed my flexibility, it seems.

                        Run for fun.

I am seriously done with this winter. -20 last night forced me on to a TM at a gym. I signed up for a month membership just to be able to use the TM for my long runs.

26.2 last night on the TM and I feel like hell today...mentally and physically.

I am so inflexible that I could snap at any minute

I slept in this morning. Planning on 5 after work tonight, provided the audit I'm involved with doesn't last too long.

qotd:  I can still sit cross legged.  I guess my little core training/stretching I do on Wednesdays helps.  It's not much, but I find a little goes a long way.  The only thing I can't do that I attribute to running is staying up really late, especially if I've got a long run planned for early the next day.  ;-)

Got up at 3 AM - was on a treadmill at the gym a little after 3:30 and got in 18 miles.

My 100-miler is now less than three months - so at least I am getting a lot of time on my feet.

I need to get back to the trails but it's not happening anytime soon.

I would rather not do a 50k on the TM next week!

                              Wannabe Ultrarunner

SNOW!! I can quit being jealous of all you guys and can now whine about my own weather instead!

It was a spectacular day in the Gorge yesterday. Sunny, breezy, icey, and bone-chillingly cold since I was totally underdressed for 18 degrees (real temp) and 30-40mph wind. (Yes, moving to OR has made me a wimp compared to the rest of you. Regardless. It felt awful cold and 3/4 tights with a windbreaker and thin gloves was an innappropriate clothing choice.) Can't figure out how to post pictures from the iPad, but that's okay, because my phone couldn't handle the cold so I only got a couple photos. (Also I couldn't use my fingers.)  Hit snow at about 1600 feet. Saw a couple in the first half mile, but then didn't see a soul for another 2.5 hours. It was magical.

The snow blew in late this morning and wrought havoc across the city as people panicked about driving in it. Hilarious, although less so for all the people stuck in traffic and sliding backwards on the bridge on-ramps. Went for a lovely 3 miler through the powder after work.

                                mtwarden: -29?! Yikes.

Messenjah: HOW DO YOU DO THAT??!!!

QOTD: Yes I can. The problem is standing back up once my hip and knee have locked into place.

Race schedule: a 50k. Sometime. This year. Maybe a 5k too. Maybe races in between as well.
