Thames Trot 5th Feb 2011 (Read 2579 times)

Purdey

Self anointed title

Me too.... sheesh. He was never really on schedule to beat it (it is an incredibly tough record), and he had appalling weather to deal with. Torrential rain, day after day. In the end it developed into a relay with his support crew taking legs, some of them cycling. Not sure of the total distance he covered - but it certainly was nothing like the whole distance.

Didn't Lee Chamberlain run it both ways last year? Nutter. Sad that his JOGLE record attempt didn't come off.

Of course, if we went up for the Thu night we could have a night on the beers first......

Yeah he got to arounf the 200+ mile mark before doing a relay to the end with the team.

Night on the beers is the perfect way to fuel up. Hey if Karl Meltzer can do it everyday (3 fine ales) while he did the Pony Express (2,000 miles) why can't we Smile

Couple of guiness won't kill things.

Quite like the idea of the JOGLE but would do it over a month, so about 30miles a day. Chances of getting a month off work

and the OK from Mrs Immune = ZERO

Something that hasn't interested me yet I have to say.

Quite fancy going to the US for a mountain trail race, although not before 2012. Want to at least do most of the UK offerings.

                Big grin

Annoying thing is the envelope was ripped open presumably by the stamp machine thingy as it seems to have got caught on the map ring. Can I confirm that you got:

I was also wondering if i was missing something as my envelope arrived split open, but it was inside a small sealed

plastic Royal Mail bag detailing how i can claim if anything was missing. Seems it wasn't only me.

Jerry - I wonder if the map books are more waterproof than the ones from C2C in January? Looking at the Map I am surprised

with the amount of times the route leaves the side of the Thames, goes along roads and houses and crosses over it,

will need to keep an eye on my map more than previously thought.

I have just mapped it out on Map My Run, it is a bit unclear at about 35 miles near Checkpoint 4 just as I hit my obligatory wall but hopefully a bit of food will make me think a little clearer.

The maps are going to be well and truelly covered with something. I am really pleased that they have listened to the feedback and kept all the snippets at the same scale.

You will also be shocked to hear that there is a 100 foot ascent at mile 30 at Goring but that should be no surprise to you...tee heee Ridgeway country Big grin

I would ask that if you are to use this map in your blogs etc you either use the link below or one to my Blog as this took a lot of time and effort to prepare.Smile

I am curious Jerry as the map is showing the total distance as 45.4 miles. A full 4.6 short of the advertised distance.

                          Is that correct?

Yes, these runs are never exactly what they state, Country to Capital was stated to be 45 miles but when ,mapped it was 42.6 miles!!!!

I mapped it off an Ordnance Survey may, imported the rough map into Map My Run and even with moving the points directly onto the path made the distance change by only about 1/4 mile so we cannot stretch it out and use height changes as an excuse.

I have a feeling that is why they have have taken 50 out of the name now.

Nope, no excuses as we have the terrain with us....apart from Goring.

The hill at Goring is going to feel like a mountain after running gradually down hill for 30 miles!!!!

One battle that will be interesting is our unchanging running cadence that we will have to look at....any thoughts?
