I'm looking to do my first ultra (50 miler) next year. I'd like to do on in the autumn for weather purposes in the midlands.
Anybody know of any races being held around that time in the midlands and for that distance?

A favourite site I use is ultramarathonrunning .com who always have an up-to-date set of races for the current year.
UK Races
50 mile runs are a little scarce and autumn is probably quite late in the year as you will have very limited daylight so will have to expect an early start and a dark finish. You may want to think about Boston which is a 12 hour run and 50 miles is easily obtainable. Timed races are a different discipline to just running a set distance but it may give you a good option.
Will you be doing any other shorter ultras before then or is this your 2011 target?
