I'm injured (i think) (Read 545 times)

Following Sundays long run (26.6m) i seem to have picked up an injury but can't pinpoint any area of pain or work out what i have strained / pulled. I did nearly fall over a few times on the ice on Sunday one time only just saving myslef and my right leg sliding out to the side a fair way but no immediate pain. On Tuedays run my upper thigh and inner thigh was a little stiff and then a little worse on Wednesdays run, each time my right foot landed i could feel it, but in 3 seperate places - inner thigh, quad and itb/hamstring area! Also when sat at my desk yesterday afternoon, i tensed my right leg and moved it from the far right towards my left leg to see if i could feel any areas of pain, which i couldn't but a crunch/clicky sound seemed to come from my hip area.

Should i be overly concerned as it feels quite a bit better to-day, and this week is meant to be a peak mileage week, but i don't know if that is wise. I have done 2 x 55m weeks and am in pretty good shape for Country to Capital on the 16th. Should i rest and not worry about hitting a specific mileage this week, and then come back next week and carry on with a 2 to 3 week taper or try a little run this evening to test the water.

EEEkkk David, I hadn't realised this had happened until now, how is it feeling?

Sounds like you have a sprain if you are getting that nasty crunchy sound/feeling. You have topped out nicely with a couple of 55 mile weeks and you should be looking at a slow taper now anyway so it maybe worth just coming off the mileage just to get the swelling down and get it to settle and tick over the mileage for the next week or so.

Just seen this - hope it is better.  If not, then yes, rest up or take a couple of very easy weeks.

Thanks for the replies/concern gents. Leg is still not right, went out on sunday and managed to run a half mara along the towpath, only hurts when i land on my right leg! 10miles this evening in the pi***ng rain, sort of think the area of my outer thigh might be a knot or a tight muscle as it seems to feel better when i use a roller on there, inner thigh is probably from slipping on the ice the previous weekend. Anyway, hopefully it holds up and starts to get better, if not i will get in contact with my usual physio and see if he can work his magic.

Hope you are all fit and well, and had a good xmas, and hope you have a great new year.

Let's hope it is just a knot Dave, I tend to get them in the outer quad when I have overdone it and was even seen to stretch after a run last week, an event as rare as hen's teeth.

I hope you are getting into a HOT bath after these runs and loosening those muscles ever since we got our new bath plummed in have I realised the magic of a hot, suddy bath to work its magic.

Keep me informed we need you on 16/1 to help us through the first 22 miles or even if it's for me to buy you a pint of Cider at the end.

Been to the physio, very minor strains to my itb and and inner abductor. Didn't hurt during any of the exercises where i was pushing against the resistance the physio was applying, but if i do a one leg squat i can feel it straight away when the leg tenses to take the strain (no jokes about me eating too many mince pies over xmas).

He advised me that i can continue running as neither area is a major component of the running cycle (or somnething like that) and i have managed 40+ miles since i picked up the niggle so i can carry on running but it may take slightly longer to heal if i do.

So i shall be out tonight for a short run (6 to 8m) although i will feel it on every right leg landing i know it isn't causing any permanent damage, so just need to grin and bare the discomfort and hopefully it will start to ease over the next week or so.

Jerry - You must be desperate if you require my navigation skills for the first 22miles. I would be much better suited to navigating the towpath section.

Great news.....I need as much help as possible as the maps are so crap they may as well drawn them in crayon on toilet paper IMHO. L2B were great and I think we were a little spoilt

                  Happy New Year everyone.

Jerry - Are you running with your usual crew on the 16th, or can we buddy up and see who else is at our pace, as i know we didn't stick together during L2B (i wont mention your singing).

I agree re the maps, no where near as good as L2B ones and very dificult to see the detail of where certain turns are etc. Maybe this is the normal standard and the Extreme Running guys spoilt us!

No problems, it is just George and myself so we could do with the company.
