here is a nice article about Max King, a former collegiate runner who has found great success in a fast-growing segment of the third running boom ("off-road running").  And lest we forget, he has done quite well on the "roads" this past year.  Lots of different ways to have fun.

Max lives in Central Oregon (close to my home) and trains on multiple surfaces (trails, pathways, grass) each week.  Notice his comment about "hill training" ... another hot topic in running articles.  Bill Dellinger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Dellinger), the legendary University of Oregon track coach, had his track guys running hills several times a week in the 1970s and 1980s, so this is not a new concept.

The XTERRA series includes some interesting race courses.  I keep tripping on tree roots and rocks sticking up in the ground, so trailing running is not my favorite type of race.
