2011 Redding (CA)
This is a short article about Ryan Hall's forthcoming announcement to run the NYC Marathon this fall. Ryan is one of several young stars putting America back on the map in the marathon. Kind of hard to believe that 1982 was the last year an American (Alberto Salazar) won the NYC Marathon.

Here is a link to an interview Ryan Hall did for Running Times just before the Boston Marathon. It explains why he is so popular in the United States.

Here is yet another link to a rather complete biography on Ryan Hall.

This an interview with Terrence Mahon, coach to Ryan Hall and Deena Kastor. How's that for a start-up track team in Northern California (Mammoth)?

Terrence Mahon is another young coach with what seems to be a very bright future. Both Hall (NYC Marathon) and Kastor (Chicago Marathon) will be in the running news quite often in the coming weeks. Go marathoners!
Ryan Hall seems to be having problems with training and tune-up races before the Boston Marathon (April 2010).

Maybe we'll learn in the coming weeks whether he's injured
Ryan Hall announced today that he plans to run the 2010 Chicago Marathon ... and attempt to set a new American record in the process.

First order of business is winning the 2010 Boston Marathon ... just a few days away ... and establish himself as someone who can win major races. Best wishes Ryan ...

Ryan Hall took 4th place in men's division of the 2010 Boston Marathon today (Apr 19) ... and Meb Keflezighi took 5th place.

The best showing for American men in quite a few years. Congratulations to Ryan and Meb. Great job!

... a seven-mile race over the weekend. He is using this race as a lead-up to the Chicago Marathon in October.
Even Ryan Hall asks this question ... to-run or not-to-run?

Only experience will answer that question.
This is very interesting news.

Guess we'll soon learn who Ryan's next coach will be.

Looks like he will be "self coached".
It looks like Ryan has decided to run the 2011 Boston Marathon.

Guess we'll see how the "self-coaching" works.
Ryan will be running the Houston Half-Marathon

in January.
WOW ... Ryan Hall runs a PR of 2:04:58 in the 2011 Boston Marathon ...
http://boston.sbnation.com/2011/4/18/2118144/boston-marathon-2011-results-geoffrey-mutai
and it's only good enough for 4th place. Plus, the winner (Mutai) is just 3 seconds from a sub-2:03 marathon. Too bad the Boston course does not qualify for "world records" (likely because it is a point-to-point course).

Guess Ryan's decision to be "self-coached" worked out well after all.
Yeah pretty fast.
(Boston is point to point and also has a net drop, so it makes sense that it doesn't count for record purposes.)
MTA: apparently part of the reason for fast times this year was that there were pretty strong tail winds too.
Ryan doesn't care whether it is a record (according to recent interviews) ... just that he is now a 2:04 marathoner. That is a rather select group at the moment. What a great day at the races ...
It looks like Ryan Hall will compete in a 1-mile race

with the eventual goal of breaking the 4-minute barrier. All of this on the advise of Rod Dixon, a very, very good marathoner from the past.
