Running to eat

Greetings from Bangladesh.  Got here two weeks ago and have been running maintenance miles of 30 miles/week.  I want a break from serious training so I've decided not to run the 2018 edition of the 100K in Thailand I DNFed earlier this year.  It's tempting to make use of the shape I'm in, but I just don't feel like getting up early and waking my wife up and putting in the miles before getting to the office before 8am for the next 3 months.  Instead, I'll attempt it in 2019, and start training seriously for it maybe in July/August.  So I'll mostly be a lurker/cheerleader for the next several months.

Trail Hound: Good to hear of the 50K run that went well.  Hope you some cool weather on race day.

Bread: Looking forward to your RR with a fast time from your marathon.  You obviously have the endurance/strength for the distance, so if you can pace well and perhaps negative split, I'm sure you'll end up with a time you'll be happy with.

    Marathon PR: 2:52 (2006 Chicago)

Ultra #1: DNF at The North Face Thailand 100K (Feb 4, 2017)

Ultra #2: Finished in 6:53:03 at the Des Plaines River Trail Races 50M (Oct 14, 2017)

Ultra #3: Finished in 12:55:04 at The North Face Thailand 100k (Feb 1, 2020)

    Ultra #4: Finished self-organized 100-miler in 19:28:53 (Oct 3, 2020)

      Duke Of Bad Judgment

Greetings from Modesto CA.  DW and I were supposed to drive home today but we realized her mom needs help for a while to sort things out (her dad died a week ago in case I haven't mentioned that).  So I'm flying home tomorrow instead and she'll come home when things settle a bit

Western States lottery - I'm in too, and they know how many times you've entered before.  It's really well done.  I doubt the odds will go down much from last year.  There are only so many qualifying races,

Skim: What do you do that takes you back and forth between Bangladesh and Chicago each year?  Special ops?

        Bread:  Good luck at Richmond!

Drock: I guess we just missed an ice storm - we drove out of Seattle at 6am and I heard it was nasty a few hours later.  It dumped on us all the way south of the CA border.

Finally finished my Moab race report:  https://pointlenana.wordpress.com/2017/11/08/moab-200/

I'm a linguist and I work in Bangladesh helping minority language groups develop their mother tongues: educational materials, dictionaries,  literature, health materials, etc.  Not every language group is interested in preserving/developing their mother tongue because the national language (Bengali) or English is much more useful for jobs/economic development, but for those who do want to, there's a lot of work to do.  I spend 2.5 of every 3 years in Bangladesh, which is the reason why I rare so rarely.

Thanks for the interesting and thorough RR, as usual.

Seattlemax - thanks for the race report! You make it almost sound almost sane to run 238 miles! Interesting that you didn't really have any injuries.

Skim, wow that is great work you are doing! I feel much of how we see the world starts with our language and more diversity = better! my wife family speaks Cantonese and HK'ers are getting drowned-out by Mandarin

50 miles run for the week, 6 miles walking. Did a few stair repeats on Saturday, will try to hit that in the winter when the mountains are too snowy. Got some good chafe yesterday in the rain, glad it wasn't a longer run would have been really painful. Signed up for a 25k trail run next week, likely will be wet
