Finished November with 211 miles and about 10,800 feet of gain. 8 weeks until the next race so I have to be good and not gain too much weight over the holidays.

Race day shoes mostly depends on the distance. Any ultra I wear Altra Olympus shoes. Anything shorter I might just wear Lone Peaks or the water-proof version. I don't really worry about a couple of ounces on my feet extra when I'm a good 10 pounds or more over ideal race weight myself, I go for cushion and comfort.

21 miles on a cutback week?  What does a non-cutback week look like?

My definition of a cutback week is based on total mileage.  So going from 62 miles and a 30-mile long run two weeks ago to 46 miles with a 21-mile long run last week counts as a cutback for me.

At least I'm not Krash whose cutback week was 80 miles with a 25-miler.

I don't know if you switch shoes during a race or not - I might do so at the half-way point if the first pair gets soaking wet from sweat - but if you don't have a second pair of the same shoes, I assume that you'd wear the more cushioned, more comfortable shoes for the second half of the race?

Not any more. A while back I realized that I was switching to more comfortable shoes mostly because my feet and ankles got sore from the running. So I ran the 2018 Bear with my most cushioned shoes the entire time and never had to switch at all, surprise my feet weren't sore from wearing skimpier shoes the first half. So now I wear my most cushioned shoes and keep a spare pair of the same kind in reserve just in case, but often I get through the entire race without changing shoes.

            Pain is my friend

I ended November with a bang. Ran my 2nd most mikes in a non race week, 90 miles. Ran the most miles in a month 374. Passed over 3000 miles for the first time ever.  Finish the week with a 36 miler on a snow covered track. A buddy of mine puts on a fun run to raise food and money for the food bank. Ave a 9:06 pace for the day. The snow wasted my legs.

Very nice way to end a great month.  And what a year you're having mileage-wise.  Great job!
