Western States and Hardrock lotteries are coming up this weekend.

Which RAers are in? I have 8 tickets for Western States, but no Hardrock qualifier this year.

    Slower but happier

      I have a 2019 but not 2018!

think you are pretty much in w 8 right?

is there a mercy rule where they let u in automatically After a certain amount?

Here are the preliminary odds that WS posted last week.  No official mercy rule, but RD has shown mercy in past years...

5/11/24 Grizzly Peak Marathon, Berkeley, CA

7/20/24 Tahoe Rim Trail 56 miler, NV

Yeah, 14% for me. Not holding my breath.

The way it works now is that any 64s who don't get drawn go to the top of the waitlist. That's new starting last year.

Same here.  TRT lottery opens tomorrow, so I'll be throwing my name in that hat should I not be SUPER lucky today.

                  No luck here.

Bummer, bhearn.  Next year!  Or the year after that!

                    Obtuse is in!

And Keith Straw (pink tutu guy), which makes me happy.

                    Anyone else?

I ran alongside Keith Straw for awhile the first time I ran Western States, in 2012.

I'd better not get in next year. I'm hoping to be on the 2019 24-hour team, and World Championships are in July. Just my luck to get drawn then and lose 5 years of qualifiers.

2012 was my 1st year at the ALT A/S.  I have been a Keith Straw fan ever since.

Did you know that before Keith was pink tutu guy, he acted in local amateur plays? I was amused to hear a playgoer comment on hearing him act the parts of Charles Dickens and Scrooge, that his English accent was so fake.

A bit late to the party - no luck for me either.  But I was really happy to see that Obtuse got picked for Western States.  She worked so hard to get her qualifier this year, and it's cool that it paid off.

3 friends got into the never portion of Hardrock - the odds of that happening can't be good.  Congratulations to them.

I didn't expect either and I'm happy to have a chunk of open time then.  Also, there's a race called Ouray 100 that looks comparable to Hardrock (course might not be as nice, and obviously no history) and I can actually get into that one.  I think the odds of me getting into Hardrock when I can still run it (physically) are pretty low so maybe Ouray will be a substitute for that item on the bucket list.

A 100 mile race (102+) with a 52 hour cutoff might be a bit challenging. They allow 24 hours for the 50 mile race.

Hard is good, right?  Hardrock is 48 hours.  That's why I think Ouray might be comparable in many ways.  And I might find I hate races at altitude, which would make yearly planning easier (no need to account for HR qualifiers).
