94 floor climb: Finished in 9:50.4 which was 2nd place. The guy who wins this every year was sick and unable to run, but there is another guy who has been doing these lately and performing pretty well. I started 2nd, 8 seconds behind the first guy and the guy who won started 8 seconds behind me. Around the 45th floor he caught me and we both caught the guy in front of us. I was with him till about 65 or 70 and then started to lose touch with him. I didn't get discouraged which is easy to do in that kind of race where you know winning is not likely anymore. That happened two years ago in this race and I fell to third place by just a second. I maintained some strength in the final 15 floors and really pushed myself which is exactly what I wanted to do. That was actually my fastest time there which is good, but I'm still a little disappointed in the end result. The winner ran 9:37 which is a time I realistically felt I could run. But, I ran hard and I executed the race plan I had for myself. And, because I maintained my focus after being passed, I ended up beating third place by just .3 seconds. Big relief considering he was the same guy who beat me here by a second in '06. Reggie Jonaitis was there and started the race about 3 minutes after I did. Its kind of frustrating running these events and consistently coming in 2nd or 3rd, but they are fun and still provides a unique challenge. There is another stair climb race in two weeks at the AT&t building in Chicago. Its sponsored by the MS society. Its the first one so I'm planning to sign up and give it a shot.
